I've seen this game for a bit now. Looks like the developer is trying to make this into a first person Project Zomboid. Trying to make it as realistic and in depth as possible. It's just that doing this in first person is way harder than an isometric perspective, but even PZ took a decade to get where it is now. The developer gave themself a hard task, but I hope they can bring it to fruition.

Reminds me a lot of 7 Days to Die, in a good way. IMO 7 Days' development direction pretty much kept changing the game for the worse with each major iteration. For example (if I recall correctly), you *used* to improve your skills by doing -- they changed the system so that you can no longer do that. You have to level up to gain some points, which you can spend into skills. They also changed the way looting works -- looting used to allow that there's a chance you might find something rare and or much better quality than your current stuff, now instead it's based on how much game time has gone by -- the longer the game, the higher-tier the loot regardless of what/where you loot from. Which is weird and linear. They also added quests which tend to involve, say, looting a critical item from a house infested with zombies, and so the devs wanted to script it in such a challenging way such as zombies hiding in the right places to catch you off-guard. Fair enough... except they achieve this by putting the zombies in closets. You wouldn't expect them to bust out of those, because well it makes no sense for brainless zombies to orchestrate standing around inside shut closets and magically waking up if you enter the area. Just the overall sense I got from these design decisions were they kept going precisely against the natural, organic direction in which people play. Anyway I digress, wish there was a better alternative to 7 days which did the good things without the bad.
@Maniacman20306 ай бұрын
They changed it for the Lowest Common Denominator of patience and intelligence. To appeal to the lazy people and popular streamers. I hate when devs hamstring themselves for an audience that is only going to stick around until the next big popular thing comes out instead of building for an audience that will keep playing and slowly pull in more people.

7DtD has only survived on its mod community putting incredible effort into big overhauls. I think Fun Pimps are incredibly lucky to be carried by such a community, because their game is honestly shit. It pioneered a really good concept for a gameplay formula, but the execution on it is terrible. I don't know why a better team hasn't come along yet and yanked that carpet right out from under them. It's low hanging fruit. IMO, they should just stop even trying to develop content for the vanilla game, and just focus on supporting their mod community. Subquake, the guy behind my favorite overhaul mod, should really just go make his own game. He could absolutely show them up single-handedly.

I wish people would be less pissy about unity store assets. Not everyone is an artist and there are plenty of great game concepts that use basic assets. Rise of Gun uses unity assets and has a great gunbuilding mechanism. This sounds like a remarkably complex game for the budget, who cares if they didn't build all their own models from scratch, lets the game come out faster.
@TheMrDewil6 ай бұрын
It's just a visual perception thing, I guess. Game that has its own visual style is somewhat more memorable than one that use something standardized and ready to use. Like going to restaurant or making do with ready-to-eat meal heated in microwave. Both get the job done, but experience might differ. I'm not saying that unity store assets are bad or anything, you said it yourself, not every studio might have an artist to do that stuff, and I agree with that, but there are other things to consider as well. What I'm saying is that people are not pissy about those assets out of the blue, you know. The has been cases of, let's say, "entrepreneurial spirited" people throwing a bunch or random store assets together and calling it a game, and having an audacity to ask money for it. It kinda does leave some bad aftertaste, and makes you a tad more skeptical when someone else decides to take a shortcut, for whatever reason.
@tootzmcgee71446 ай бұрын
@@TheMrDewil That isn't really a good analogy though. You can have really good meals that look awful or bland garbage that's presented beautifully. A game like this is a plate of texas bbq. It isn't about the presentation, you slab that shit down because the point isn't the visual, it's the seasoning and bark and all the bits that you can only savor by digging in. A good brisket look like a rectangle of meat but it tastes like a symphony. If a game is well designed and written and the maker can't afford an artist (or just doesn't care), then it should still be judged on its merits.

I have some issues with the design of this game, usually some variation of the game not respecting my time. This crops up in different ways, but all give me some pause on the title. Supposedly simple tasks like cooking something on the stove can take 10 clicks as you scroll through menus and toggle stuff into the UI, the required resources for things are too specifically varied(which conflicts with the weight system as you generally abandon stuff), things having de facto time limits is irksome from your character accumulating stress into sickness and death if the game thinks you're "idling" in an area to things built in your base area requiring a black hole of upkeep materials that get mulched into the ether every 60 minutes, and even truly absurd stuff like having your character's stomach literally explode because you ate a second food item so now you die over the next two minutes.
