Hi Stripey 👋. A lovely sunny, crisp winter camp, so beautiful. I still admire your light weight set up, it takes experience I think to get to this level. Thanks for sharing Stripey. ATB Serk
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
Hi Serk 👋, yeah just perfect conditions for a wild camp! I think the most important is a good isolation to the ground followed by a sleeping pad. You might have recognised that I got myself a xtherm (lighter than xlite + foam) as it is noticeable warmer than my double solution. I used on this trip every single item I brought with me - so yes it needs for sure some time to dial your needs in 😉. I didn’t show for example that I had the whole day the water filter in my jacket pocket as well as the power banks for charging the electronics and even then the microphone failed - electronics and cold is just an annoyance 😒. Thanks a lot Stripey
@serkd37 Жыл бұрын
I have the Extherm which is great but I’m kicking my self as I should have got the wide version, my elbows sometimes touching the floor. I noticed tour microphone went, those conditions really do effect the electronics don’t they. Looking forward to your next camp Stripey. Serk

@@serkd37 oh I know what you mean, my xlite is RW and I can probably stretch otherwise I am to long. My xtherm is the max version, feels that I have more space than in my bed 😂😂😂

Is that MLD Duomid in DCF? What length are your trekking poles? I have BD Alpine Carbon Cork which extend to at most 130 cm and I wonder if they would work with the A-frame connector for the Duomid. I'm really interested in the Duomid as it seems to be wind-worthy and saves weight by utilizing trekking poles, though I wonder if the ones I own now would be long enough to support it.
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
Hi Vladd?, yes it is the mld duomid in dcf which I am using, slightly modified (show it in my ‘gear video’ where I show my backpacking gear). I have some BD trail (I believe) which go up to 135cm and with the extension this is how high it gets (like 5-10cm ventilation. Otherwise I need to make the A more narrow to achieve more ventilation. So to your question, yes it will work with your poles but I don’t think that you could get more than 5cm off the ground without sacrificing living space (narrowing the A-frame). Hope it helps! Its seems like a very cold camp 😮 I usually put my hot water bottle in a wool sock , have you tried that ? Its keeps the warmth a little longer and is easier to touch . Looking forward to the Q&A , thanks!
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
Probably I didn’t bring it properly ‘over?’ in the video, I didn’t do it for the cold, I just did it to prevent the water from freezing and that I had not a bottle of ice water in my sleeping bag 😂. But yes putting it in a spare sock/cloth keeps it longer warm - thankfully we don’t have your temperatures mate 😜

Can I ask what groundsheet do you use
@StripeyHatGuy Жыл бұрын
Yes of course, I use in this video a polycro + tyvek groundsheet. The polycro I used as I am wasn’t sure how much the ground would be frozen as tyvek isn’t the best for soggy ground (did a video on that, if it would be of interest). Thanks for watching Stripey
