While people within the church are trying their best to do good and have honorable intentions, I think there is a tendency to forget that it is important be accepting of those whose lifestyle or culture is different from our own. In my work, I have the opportunity to meet with people from all over the world and while I certainly hope to be able to share the gospel with them at some point, that is not my primary focus. I concentrate my efforts on being their friend, first and foremost. Then, if an opportunity presents itself and feels right, that's when I will share some of my beliefs. If someone I come into contact with is not ready to receive that information just yet, that's ok too. Being a true friend while showing genuine love and support for someone is what matters most. Our Father in Heaven will take it from there if it is His will and that person is ready.

@@churchofjesuschrist Thank you, this comment really hits it on the nail for me. It is how I understand the Gospel of Christ, and also how I try to live it. Being married to my husband who is not a member of the Church has opened my eyes to see that love is still possible, despite our differences in background or faith. Over our 11 years of marriage I am coming to a much better understanding (though with room for continual improvement) of how the Savior would have us love others born to different circumstances than ourselves.

, I'm an American LDS female who lived in Iran for 10 years right after the revolution. During the American hostage crisis. And all of the things that went on and I stood strong in my face and I felt this terrible isolation over there and. But if it wasn't for the church sending me the ensign some of their paid for it I don't know what I would have done I'm so grateful

Choose for yourself! What you or a parent have done before does not limit your ability to improve. When the members who embraced this family saw them as real brothers and sisters, it lifted everyone up.

Elder Soares came to visit our mission, Barcelona-Spain, when my wife and I, were senior missionaries there. We met with him and his wife at the Bilbao chapel. He speaks Spanish, English and of course Portuguese. I still remember shaking his hand, ''Mucho Gusto Elder Soares'' I said or ''Nice meeting you.'' We had a good meeting with him and his wife, spoke to us too.
