Brother, I was an Airronotical welder for the Navy, and the one thing I noticed right off the bat was the old timers who had been doing the job for twenty to thirty years were struggling with two major health issues, #1) Copd, the rods, the metal in them and the coatings that are necessary to get aproper shield and coverage for the weld, give off some of the most toxic fumes a man can work around, so protect your lungs or when it is time to enjoy life you will be struggling to just breath. #2) Protect your eyes, about half of them had or were facing complete lesen replacement. Just a bit of observed knowledge passing on to a talented fellow welder. Your work looks great, and you knowledge suggest you had a great teacher and mentor.

a little tip on painting with yellow paint, use a white quick dry primer then the yellow, yellow has very little covering power especially on black steel......gives a great finish and primes and covers at same time...you will use a lot less yellow paint too

I really cannot emphasize this as a young welder, 100% safety gets you back home the sane way you left. The other day I got shocked pretty good and I could feel the current go from my left hand all the way to my left knee. In retrospect I do believe if I had been more unfortunate, the current could have passed through my heart

for that 20 gauge, 6011 electrode negative with a whip....great video my weldor friend, Paul in Orlando, by the way, there are a ton of these apartment stairways in Orlando built in the 70-80's that need replacing....I am too old to be dealing with, but if you run out of work in your area, check out Orlando, this was a boom town when Disney came around do lots of Apartment complexes...cheers

Lol! No gloves 😂 That’s how we do it in Florida! Same on the East coast brother! Maybe bring a 140 wire feed on the job. Really helpful on a lot of jobs. Most will do 1/4 with fluxcore. Never had a problem.

For those tight cuts like that patch its always good to keep a cheap die grinder and some good dremel blades, carbides and flap wheel things. Youll be able to get those peaky spots you say fuck it to all too often. Love ya meltin metal.

For light guage use a 110 welder and e71t-gs eagle arc sells 2lb for 10 bucks and it's good fast deposit and good profile single pass only

But then you're not a machinist unless you're an engineer, but then you're not an engineer unless you're an IT tech, but then you're not an IT tech, unless you're a software developer. Your logic is way off-base. Mechanically inclined is NOT the same thing as being a mechanic. For example, if you give me an honest go without googling I'll prove you wrong. Tell me the difference between ST and LT fuel trims. What is in spec, and what is out of spec for any vehicle on the road today. Also, bonus points for telling me what sensor in the car feeds information to the computer to adjust fuel trims. Any mechanic knows the answer to this, a welder doesn't.

what happen if it rains ? Your equipment on the truck and the ability to keep welding ? Was given a welder for my birthday for little home projects but enjoy seeing the pros do their thing. I love building stuff and considered a few careers before getting into Computers and IT. I have helped build houses and also helped wire them professionally while I was in college for Engineering. I wish I had learned welding when I was younger, so much that can be built with metal. Thanks for the video, I will be watching more of them in 2022.

really not much to it, you register you business with the state and get a EIN. then you call around for insurance and ask around about a good contract lawyer to write you a contract up

I'm not alone in this business. Seems these older apartment complexes have stairs to fix. Their my money maker. No one seems to want to deal with rust. Got 550 steps with all new angle brackets to replace next month so much fun. I know I don't where gloves enough either. Should know better after falling on a fresh weld. What a dumb thing that was. My fault and still didn't learn.

they were my money maker as well last year but the one guy stopped paying me so I stopped working. I quoted two more bigger jobs but I must have been too pricy or something. Theres another guy I go to that has me fix his stairs when they are in absolute dire need of being fixed I don't do a whole lot there but that guy hasn't shorted me yet so if he needs more in the future I'll still go do work for that guy.

@@nathaniellipski7121 I have 4 miller SP32 I bought off off EBAY at very good prices. Each have different wires. Your right about the setup which can be a pain. I find that I use hobart "fluxcore" .045 with a miller fluxcore gun very often. NO gas plugs right up and no issues with windy situations. AND its fast with great penetration

Mine are always on. And if I'm using a cut off disk or a hard wheel I use glasses AND a face shield. Most of time I'm working alone. If I get hurt, there is no one there to call for help.

it doesn't have to be that hot. the point is just cuz it's essentially a giant heat sink and it could rapidly cool your weld down faster then it should cool down.

I hope you bought a wire feeder by now. It will cut weld time and pay for itself. Also use 6011 3/32 for light gauge galvanized steal. The last thing is, quenching mild steal does not harden the steal.
