I think most of the jacks are Wisconsin salmon. Wisconsin plants have a yellow dot on their belly. I’ve caught over a dozen of them with yellow dots this year and only a couple in years pasts. With the east winds and the cold water on the Michigan side most of the year I think many of these fish migrated over. It is still weird to me that so many took to the river though. Hopefully it doesn’t screw up future runs with the amount that went up early.

@sbsoutdooraction3055Ай бұрын
@@brookensangling from what I understand the yellow dots are just birth marks. Wisco dnr says they have nothing to do with them and they happen naturally. I do seem to see more so tho yellow dots each year tho. Maybe something in the lake causing it?

@@sbsoutdooraction3055 Out here in the PNW we usually see Jack returns that make up about 10% of the total run on average. Since salmon put all their eggs in one basket, this is the evolutionary way of compensating for the the rare catastropy that might wipe out an entire years fish stock. More fun facts; the story of the salmon says that the fish return to the exact stream that they were born in but we now know that is not always true. For the costal rivers of Washington, one study found that up to 40% of returning salmon are actually "strays" from other river systems. They really are remarkable creatures.
@sbsoutdooraction3055Ай бұрын
@@loganfishbeard we’ve noticed that they do just seem to randomly run up rivers here too. You see clipped fish in river that don’t get stocked here often. Thanks for the info man!

The reason why you have one year-old and two-year-old and three-year-old fish spawning is because the genetics of the fish in case of a drought or a fish die off of mature kings four-year-olds there are still one year-old and two year-old and three-year-old fish that will spawn to keep the species going it’s natural for this to happen. I even see it in steelhead.
