Fishroom looking amazing as always. That salvini and the vieja are awesome. My favorites of the South American Cichlids. I have too many favorites, to be honest. 😂

Hey Mr Ben Just my 2 cents in what I’ve learned in keeping Discus over the years…If you want to keep them, keep them either solo or with some dither fish like cardinals or rummy nose tetras. Sterbei Corys also do great since they can handle some higher temps….Ive also had some luck growing out very small rainbows and some smaller sveni geos as well…bottom line is it works until it’s not working and you really have to pay attention to if the discus are able to get to the food. As for bigger fish like Severums and EBA’s and larger Geos…I’d advise against it because Discus are fairly slow eaters with smaller mouths and they just can’t match the aggressive eating of those other Cichlids I mentioned…Keeping them isn’t really as hard as some say…As long as you give them what they need…Clean Water, a comfortable environment, and good food…those 3 things are 🔑 And yes some can have success in a really large tank with bigger discus mixed with other semi aggressive cichlids…but it’s just risky and like I always say…it works until it just doesn’t! But I say do it already…you will love keeping them 👍🏼

These South American Cichlids (I assume all of them are), seem to be more mellow across the board than african cichlids - is that a fair statement? Just the same, I have found after years keeping African cichlids that I have been better at matching my africans in a manner resulting in a very mellow group, considering! Maybe, too, since I increased the size of that tank to a 125 gal. My colony of Kenyi's has grown, and I have venustas, aceis, a red empress, lace catfish, and some others - yet they are all rather mellow including the Kenyi's even at 3-5 inches now! That being said, I love the colors and the diversity in size these fish can all be kept together as your aquariums suggest! Thanks for a great informative video!

What happened to the Nicaraguan's right eye? Looks blind. I have a chocolate cichlid with same bad right eye.

Hey Ben, how long do you think it will take to wait until realistically the female festae can have a trial run with the male ?
@BenOchart14 күн бұрын
A few months after she shows her adult colors. Could be 6 months or more. That’s my guess.
@Les-OZZYTHEOSCAR14 күн бұрын
@@BenOchart oh ok, so she will always be much smaller than the male. That will make for a very tense introduction
