This is a brand new Disappearing Rail Patch Quilt.
I am very excited to announce that I am going to be interviewed LIVE by Donna of Handmade By Ying on Monday, Dec 5, 2022 at 7 pm. The link to the interview is here:
• Live Interview with Br...
I hope to see you there but if you can't make it, the entire interview will be uploaded to that same address.
The finished quilt is 40" X 30"
Fabric Requirements:
Yardage:
¾ Yards White
⅔ Yard Red
⅔ Yard Blue
My original design idea started out totally different from how it ended up. I made a new block that I am calling a Rail Patch, because it looks like a cross between a Rail Fence block and a 9-Patch block.
I am amazed how many different kinds of disappearing block quilts that can be found. It seems like there is an endless supply of blocks that can be turned into disappearing quilts. I am so glad that you are here on this journey with me.
I am Brita the Questioning Quilter, check out all the fun on my website: questioningqui...
If you decide to make this quilt, I would love to see how it comes out. You can email a picture to me or share it with me on Facebook or Instagram.

I think many quilt blocks with names today might have been unexpected accidents, ended as wonderful results!
@QuestioningQuilter

You are almost certainly right. There are also probably blocks that were never published anywhere so there names are lost to us forever. I am sure that I couldn't be the first quilter in the world to make that starting block.

I am so happy to hear that you like the other designs. That way I know to keep including them. Fortunately everyone has different tastes and I would rather show multiple layouts than go to all the trouble to make separate videos with each layout. Although maybe people would like more shorter videos. What do you think? That way each design could be highlighted and you would only have to watch the one you like the best.

I think it is only fair to show people that I am not some sort of mystic that can "Just See" these great designs. It is hard work and plenty of dead ends. I am happy that you enjoyed seeing it.

It's fun. But if that's what you want in the end, there are easier ways to get it, and with fewer seams. But, have fun.
@QuestioningQuilter
@QuestioningQuilter Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I didn't think so at first, but I see what you are talking about. Simple arrow blocks would be much easier but these are interlocked and have the white windcatcher in the negative space. I went back to it and you can eliminate the seams on the arrow shafts by making each block a shaft with an arrowhead on either side. But the pattern would be a little more complicated. It would be made of 3 uneven rows. The middle row would be the 3 1/2" X 11 shaft. The arrowheads would have the same four 4" HST's but also four 2" X 4" (instead of two 4" X 4") white pieces. The arrowhead (top and bottom) rows would be 4" X 11". Yes, there would be fewer seams but the piecing would also be slightly more complicated. I really appreciate you looking at the quilt and giving me feedback. I stick by this pattern though as being a reasonable and elegant method of making this quilt. Thanks so much for this comment, Brita

Hi again, Someone asked how this would look with scraps. If the cut up blocks are mixed up the quilt would look like this! imgur.com/BDCbCer This takes away your concern about making it with fewer seams. I hope that you like it. Brita

@QuestioningQuilter
@QuestioningQuilter Жыл бұрын
I like that name for the firs block. I hadn't thought of that, but I see it now. I can't see right off the bat how to made the red and blue arrows facing each other. Because the red arrows are only created when you put 4 blue arrows together, I'm not sure how that would work. But thanks for asking. It shows interest in the block and a curiosity about how to make it better. If you figure out how to make it work, let me know. Brita

@QuestioningQuilter Жыл бұрын
@@karinarnborg6975 The way the scrap quilt would work is random 4 1/2" colored scraps to make the HST's then random 4" X 11" rectangles for the center bar. The only thing that I did in this mock-up is made the left and top sides of the arrows with the lighter fabrics and the darker fabrics on the bottom and left hand sides of the arrows. I hope that this makes sense. I am really happy with how it came out and am so glad that you suggested it.
