I have a weird relationship with Futiger Aero, in that I accidentally skipped it. I was one of those "xp or die" boomers when Win7 came out, barely touched my Wii except to play games with friends or family, and had no attraction to the fancy tech like the billion robot dogs that came out during that time. But now that I'm in our current, minimalist hell landscape I feel an odd longing for futiger aero. A craving for something I once turned my nose up at. We'll get there one day, the Internet is just going through its growing pains. It still has the potential to be the literal salvation of humanity, but it has to grow through this awkward adolescent phase where it's still being held back by the economic structures and restrictions placed on it by the real world. The digital world will reach its full fruition when we as human beings are not just escaping our real lives into it but living inside of it, and there we will find the resurgence of this beautiful optimism we once had. The Internet is destined to be humanity's true utopia, a place where anyone and everyone can be free and even make the real world a better place as well. Even a little playlist like this reminds me that people still believe in humanity's potential to use this incredible tool to make life beautiful, and maybe if we all believe a little more we can build the future that we once hoped for.

On the one hand, Frutiger Aero is definitely a future that couldn't be. Optimistic, shiny beautiful greenscapes fused with sleek glossy technology. But in keeping with that optimism, it's also the past that was. For those few shining years, we were living it and we didn't even know. That's how nostalgia works. Sims 3, club penguin, Windows software, phone stores, default wallpapers. I think we're really lucky that we still remember it and are kinda working to bring it back. That's the nature of the aesthetic - optimism.

I think that part of what could help society heal is this: Start being more friendly to other people. In real life. And on the internet. Most people are kind. But shy and distrustful, I think. So we keep to ourselves. And retreat into the internet. If we NEED another warm, smiling, kind stranger in our lives. Then, everyone else needs it too. Be that stranger. You will hopefully be contagious. Corporations need to be forced, by the hand of the consumers, to take PRIDE in their work again. And employees need to ALSO take pride in the work. Notice how all Frutiger Aero is playful, ambitious, reckless with its design, bold, optimistic. WE THE PEOPLE need to make the mental shift JUST AS MUCH as corporations. We drive corporations, as much as they drive us. Corporations will make products that people WANT, so that we BUY them. SO, we need to WANT more Frutiger Aero, then, they will make it. To sell it. We need corporations to realize. We don't need brutal professionalism. We need playful products. Be happy. Have fun. Make what you can, because you CAN. YES functionality is important. But, we need playfully functional products.

Frutiger aero: an aesthetic made by corporations in the early 2000s to market tech and make it present in our everyday lives tech by grounding it and Juxtaposing it with nature. It gave the idea of several things: A hopeful future, a calm world, and the idea that tech is for everyone because like the wind on tree branches, like water flowing in a river, and a bubble floating on by, it's as natural as nature itself. Such beautiful lies allowed tech to be in our lives and also reach the ideal future for tech and it's users. The future is here, because it's our present. It has served its purpose and thus is no longer needed. No need for glossy buttons, *we know* how to use *the screen,* no need for physical objects to represent the features. *We know* what *the icons* and their meaning, no need for nature, or nature based metaphors and similies, because *tech is the nature.* Congratulations we achieved utopia................. isn't this what we wanted?

Funny. I was obsessed with Windows XP as a kid, and hated Windows 7 because it lacked the 8 bit-ish style XP had. But when I decided to get 7, I quickly grew fond of it. And when I changed to 8, I quickly changed back to 7 because I missed the vibrant colors and glassy style it had. When I decided to move to 10 in 2020, it was bittersweet saying goodbye to 7, and I was reluctant to. And meh I do like 10 more than 8, but it's too flat. As a kid I loved the over-detailed style of the 2000s Windows. I've always been an art kid who loved creative and overly detailed designs. I was obsessed with those Frutiger Aero keyboards, monitors and mouses with tiny fish inside. XP is still my favorite of all because I'm still obsessed with its 8 bit-ish style mixed with the colorful primordial-Frutiger Aero style. I will always miss it when designs were more creative and colorful, I felt like people expressed themselves in a more unique way in that era of the internet.

i remember being a kid and this stuff was everywhere for a bit, much less EVERYWHERE than it actually was im sure- but its cool to see how fondly we look back at the times and wonder what could have been if this style stayed... But honestly its even cooler that the next gen can give it life again. Now we gottah to remember and embrace the styles and era we are in right now, soon to be reflected on again, its cool to be apart of somethin
