I know the exact feeling.. I debated this for about 5 months. A moment ago I saw it secondhand for a very high price, which gave me a scare that it might have been sold out. The scare I felt convinced me that I simply needed to buy it. (i justify it that it may be more valuable in 30 years. Its an investment.. xD) Did you buy it yet?

@@michielsoons2560 I understand what you mean. I meant to buy the first book when it got released in July 2019 but then I cancelled my pre-order to buy other things. But now I will buy them, one per month for the next three months. I fear they might be discontinued and they clearly are an investment. They won’t lose value over time, quite the opposite. And they look majestic.

@@AdamHill1234 lol WOT books where way ahead of their time in terms of female characters, magic system and world building above all. Whilst a few books in the middle messed up the story a good wee bit, and the characters where a bit too simple and black and white, - the ambition and scope of this series will place it in the history books forever. Only thing that has made fantasy progress since then has been Steven Erikson and most people don't even know who he is. Sanderson is an unreal author but unoriginal and his romance and relationships are so bad.

Apparently these were Folio’s best selling books last year in 2019. I have my copies of this and Clash of Kings, they’re beautiful but I’m afraid to scratch the foil inlays on the front!

I have the book in my lap right now, but I had to watch your presentation on it. I actually like the illustrations - especially the Dany horse heart one. I hope they keep him on for continuity, and I hope all the books have the same or similar price range. I can’t go much higher.

Excellent review and production 👍 Wonderful series, one of my favorites of all time. The illustrations where not as gritty as the writing. The illustrations for "Fire and Blood" and the 20th anniversary of GOT by Bantam are superior.

I understand you, though Folio has said they have the rights to print all of A Song of Ice and Fire, including the unpublished sixth and seventh books. It is likely a book per year given the time for illustrations, etc., so book six won't be published by Folio until 2024. Of course, that is if the sixth book is out then. The big worry is book seven, but I fear one more book might be needed as well.

Really debated getting this edition but i already have too many editions of the series! I have a full set of the Deluxe Red Slipcases which give me a great shelf presence, and the illustrated edition(s) are just packed with quality illustrations. Still, I am glad you picked this up and were able to share. I love books printed in multiple ink colours.

Should I go with this or the leatherbound Harper Voyager editions? I love Folio Society, and would've definitely bought this as soon as it came out if not for the fact that I just decided to pick up the leatherbound version of _A Game of Thrones._ I think that one is a really nice edition, despite pages being a bit thin, but I'm unsure as to whether I should stick with the leatherbound books or drop those and go with Folio Society. On one hand it would be really nice having a series of real classic-looking books in red leather, as I don't have or plan on getting any other leatherbound books anytime soon (though I don't know how the books will age), on the other hand... Folio Society. I love everything they do, all their books, their passion... and I think the book itself _does_ look rather nice too, of course. Harper Voyager/Collins (I believe they're practically the same, no?) I don't really have any experience with, but I'm thinking they've gotta be a reputable/good publisher if they're the ones publishing Tolkien and ASoIaF.

You could do what I did and get both! The red leatherbound editions are high quality and look and feel great. The paper stock is much thinner than folio, but that isn't a bad thing in my view. They also have some nice illustrations. Overall the Folio edition has more bells and whistles, but then it's nearly 3 times as expensive.

Have not bought either but I'm leaning towards the Harper Collins since I prefer the more simple title text on the spine more than the stylistic font on Folio's, for when they are displayed on the shelf. But I suggest you wait till the other books are announced as a month or two ago, I emailed Harper Collins and they are unsure if the last two books will be in the same red leatherbound design. And if you recall, Harper did a blue slipcase version prior to the red ones.

In my experience of buying many editions of the game of thrones has always met me with disappointment. The Leather ones are not real leather and contain thin paper. These are not the quality of the Children of Hurin in leather. Folio is more expensive but the paper quality and its textured surface is organic enough for me. Wonderful design with my only critique being the cloth bounding. But as they are doing the full series and making it affordable it is understandable. If money is not object you could go for the Subterranean books signed and numbered. I had a copy but sadly sold it. The there is the holy grail. The Meisha Merlin lettered edition. Now i have not seen one of those on ebay for a long time.

@@andyrobinson2653 one thing I like about these editions is they fit the books in one volume rather than split them. To do that you need thin paper. It's a design decision, nothing to do with paper quality.

@@Uppernorwood976 A design decision for yourself. But the Harper cannot match the paper quality and text of the folio. If you want it in one volume then fine. But this is about cost not design. Hence price difference. I like Harper but for the edition mentioned I would pass.

Really torn about this. The edition looks amazing and I enjoyed GoT very much. But I found the later books (especially starting from A Feast for Crows) to be impossibly tedious so I can't see myself wanting to buy more than the first few in the series. Do I really need the first quarter of a series of £125 books I read before?

I couldn't agree more! I loved the first book, and enjoyed the series less and less as it went on. I think that he lost control of his vision and over-complicated it, going on and on and on....By about the fourth book I just didn't care what happened to any of the characters any more so I gave it up. No way I'll be investing in this series, however nice the edition is.

Also check out the 20th Anniversary edition of A Game of Thrones if you haven't already. Those illustrations are gorgeous. Especially the ones by Magali Villeneuve. They're following suit with Clash next albeit with a new younger talent.

Great video (with perfect music). Is the cloth (on the spine and back) reflective? It looks as if it is shimmering between two colors (a wine red and a bluish silver).

The Covers of this editon look amazing, but I'm not a fan of the illustrations. Maybe I don't get it but they look like fan art and amateurish to me.

I do share your opinion on the illustrations to a degree. Some of them look good while others come of as "amateurish".

I agree. And I’m not a big fan of the close up of the faces. I feel they should be left to the reader to imagine and might at worst clash with ones interpretation and distract from the story. Some of the illustrations also remind me of the Harry Potter illustrated editions. Probably because of the “cartoonish” vibes. The illustrations for Lotr are often aerial and doesn’t show the characters too clearly, with obvious exceptions, and I think this would have been a better way to illustrate these books as well. Still very beautiful books and I’m thinking about getting these.

Just curious do you know if this is a limited amount printed or will there be more than the first run printed?? Just ordered this version as I love it but I am hoping I get a first printing but I don't know if they were planning on more than just the first print run. I tried googling but couldn't find any info. Do you have any ideas on this please?? I didn't know about it till today when I came accross it by accident. Thanks so much for your help!

Hi there! I'm sure that they will do more print runs in the future, but I don't know how large the first one were (I'd assume rather large). I doubt Folio Society would allow this edition to run out of print before the whole series is completed (assuming once again that it is selling quite well). :-)

I've just completed reading the 3rd book in the series. I must say that FS seems to have put a lot of creative effort in designing the books. The various illustrations, detail of imagery, envelope on top of another envelope and a map booklet??! Yes, the hype. As an avid fantasy reader in my youth mostly, I can say A Game of Thrones makes for a decent reading here and there, some nice moments of good writing in otherwise a desert of the mediocre. FS edition looks better and surely more magical than the story itself.

They are beautiful but this review says nothing about the price. At close to £100 per volume with single books split into two, for a large and unfinished series, I'm out. If you have £1,500+ to throw at it then go for it but I'm not paying that much for ANY books. At least they didn't make them Folio numbered editions which would have made them about £500 for each slip case.
