Roof first then bonnet then wings and doors last. Plus always try to follow the wet edge so you dont get a dry line. 2 coats wont give you much paint depth for flatting and polishing, I would have gone with 3 minimum personally but having said that, you look like you have a decent finish so you mihgt be ok, carefull on the edges👍

What you did in that tiny space was a monumental achievement. The brief was to get the paint on the car relatively smoothly and with no issues. You did it. In hindsight the plastic on the floor was not a great help to you , apart from not having a green floor to remind you. Leave the paint as long as you can to shrink back before final cut and polish, not easy to do, but resist the urge to get stuck in ,because the rewards will be greater, the longer you leave it. The paint guy was right. Pat on the back for a mission success.

That's a great job particularly with the facilities you had to hand. Don't worry about the odd imperfection......it's impossible to achieve a perfect finish straight off the gun in those conditions. You've chosen wisely since a decent 2K colour coat allows you to mechanically polish to achieve an almost perfect finish, even going back to touch in any needed repairs if necessary. Wet sand down to P2000 then mop the whole car with Farecla G3. You'll have a car to be proud off. Great colour too.

Well done! Er…2k paint you should be using an air fed mask, nasty stuff. So, pushing fifty years ago I did what you’ve just done, but on a ‘66 MGB roadster. I’d regretted not buying a low miles ‘72 GT, something that has mildly annoyed me ever since! Anyway, a couple of days ago I went to look at a ‘72 GT that’s been sat in a garage for years, two owners from new, rotten sills, front wing lowers rear wheel arch lowers, all crumbling. But, floors all like new, never been welded, totally original. Even the same colour as the car I wanted all those years ago. Besides the rot, it’ll need everything overhauling, brakes, fuel system and more than likely the mechanicals too. If I buy it, I’m going to blame you Henry! Watching your videos has given me the urge to have a go! Again, well done, you must be chuffed with what you’ve achieved.

Henry ! How you only managed the runs you had is a miracle ! If you paint again and think about an airfed only use one if you have the correct inline filter. And l bet you've got at least 2litres left over . I well remember telling my then boss not to let my apprentice paint his beetle . He didn't listen and when l returned in the morning the runs were so bad the paint had literally run off the car and hanging like stalactites !!!! So you've done pretty well for a first time.

I saw a trick for pouring paint from the can, on a youtube video. Basically with masking tape you tape a V shape across the top of the can and then pour through the base of the V. So simple but it gives a controllable stream of paint. Great job. I was reading the other day that if you have clouds of overspray it may be too high an air pressure, what pressure were you spraying at ? I'm still learning too. I had an MG Midget restored professionally and to be fair, your paint job looks just as good, and the same colour too. Well done again sir. Salutations.

@ I think the comment about the pressure was probably right. You need just enough pressure to atomise the paint. The fan spray pattern seemed very wide. Probably a lower pressure and adjusting the fan shape to be more concentrated would reduce the amount of overspray in the air. Nevertheless the paints on the car now and it will look fab once it’s cut back and polished.

Was this your first time painting a car? Not bad if so... but just a few pointers for the future. 1. Try and follow your wet edge, I noticed on a few panels like the roof and bonnet the method wasn't quite smooth enough and that's why you got that dry spray on the A pillar. 2. It's an extra step and may seem a little more complex but if you had sprayed the basecoat and then clear over the top it would have been much more forgiving when it comes to cutting and buffing. 3. As you are aware that method of extraction did not help at all and looking at your mask. I would be amazed if you didn't have a heavy chest coughing today. I recently built an extraction in my similarly sized garage using about 6 panel panel filters and a 20" explosion proof axial fan. If you would like advice/pictures for future reference just get in touch buddy👍🏻

@HJRgarage even with perfect painting conditions some of your problems could still arise. Also mist some water on the floor (don't soak it) this keeps the dust down and stops your sticky feet situation 😂. Good luck with the rest of the build 👍🏻

I congratulate you on a good job for the equipment and space you have. But really you put your health at risk. Your mask was grossly inadequate and should have been an air fed one from outside your work area, and a full face mask at that. 2k chemicals can enter through your skin and eyes. So you hopefully got away with it this time but please don't push your luck. All the best with the rest of the renovation.

Interesting technique not painting the bonnet and roof first...leaning over the wet paint on the sides 🫣. Primer is hydroscopic so by washing it absorbed moisture and will probably micro blister 🫣 Your lucky you didn't end up in A & E spraying with a clogged face mask , unshaven with crap ventilation. Please anyone watching do not copy this idiot. Its only safe to spray a car in 2k with AIR FED BREATHING apparatus. What use is a classic car if you keep having asthma attacks?
@HJRgarage12 сағат бұрын
