I have never seen bare soil look so beautiful Cliff! What a credit to your hard work. My two allotments still have standing water on them, so I am a long way off being crop ready, and there is no sign of the rain letting up! It has been a challenging winter! All the best, Martin.

You are right Martin I have been digging wet soil I wouldn't normally touch. Racing against the rains, I hope your two allotments dry out enough for you to work on regards Cliff.

Really enjoy your videos, and envious of your growing season. I’m in Maine, USA, zone 5.. so everything is jammed into a 12-15 week season, no winter crops. Would like to see some detail on how you built the frames for your crop covers.

Sir, you are such a lovely man. I just found the Castle Hill Gardener channel. I’ve traveled extensively within the UK, and upon return to the Unites States, I am always so disappointed with American gardening practices. Thankfully, having been a gardner (I have farms but I’m a psychologist in my career) and we raise all our own veg. However, I am learning from you watching your detailed focus on different crops from seed to harvest. I do start many open pollinated seed and save back seed across the seasons. Thank you & Easter Blessings! Allison 🌱
@CastleHillGarden7 ай бұрын
Thank you Dr Alison nice to hear from you. I think gardening is now changing back to the old ways of saving our own seeds etc. We started buying in seeds to get the newer varieties, the price of the hybrids and poor germination over the years. As now made us start to use open pollinated seed. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.

Thanks for sharing Cliff/ Diane, hopefully we’ll soon get some warmer weather! Although we did have a mild spell ,it turned very cold again, so this year I’m going to hang fire with some of my seed sowing, like cucumber,tomatoes and other warm loving plants for another 3-4 weeks , have a great week I can see you’re going to be very busy, take care and will see you both on the next one! 👍🕊️

Thank eadjh, I don't blame you with this unpredictable weather, I sow early seed then If the weather does take them. I have time to resow. Enjoy your week regards from us both.

Glad to see the older tomato seeds germinated well! I usually do find that seeds will germinate for a few years longer than the packet is dated, but it’s always a nice treat when they do. The only seeds I have had that didn’t germinate at all, were the dozen or so packets I ordered from the UK. Not a single seed germinated in any of the packet and they weren’t old. My guess is that somewhere in the process of getting them shipped to me in the USA they were treated with something that killed the seeds. It’s a shame because you have varieties there that aren’t available here, but no sense ordering if they get zapped before they get to me. 😀
@CastleHillGarden8 ай бұрын
I agree Gigi didn't realise they get zapped, sorry to hear that such a shame. Take care regards Cliff.

So nice to see a video from you guys. I have had the floods and compacted ground ljke you guys, it's pretty disheartening to see your crop covered in water. The artichokes and rhubarb looking very robust, I have tomatoes seedlings on my kitchen window sill and I need to plant out, and only a few days of summer left here but only small plum type so may get a crop if autumn is kind. Good luck with the broad beans. Thanks Cliff and Diane
