They filmed this movie @ BEALE A.F.B. in 1963 & used my Fathers crew in the alert shack, which I spent so much time in growing up. B52 pilots spent @ least 3/4 weeks a month on Alert during the Cold War & even longer after they took off on a "mission." I missed my Dad so much but those were different times. I even know what B52 my Dad was flying in the takeoff scenes. I'm still so very proud of him. Any daughter would be. 💜

Pulled my share of Alert during the late 70's as a Crew Chief on the old D models while at Dyess. During my time there you never wanted them to take off, if you did, it meant the base would not be there if you survived the 25% chance of reaching your targets. We did a lot of MITO takeoff though as this scene depicts, but not while on ALERT. Be proud of your dad, those flight crews were a devoted bunch.

I was stationed at Beale, 1971-2. You have every reason to be proud of your father and the sacrifices he made.

My dad was deputy commander of Beale at the time, under General Sam Byerly. His name was Col Charles “Chuck” Hammack, he flew in both this and the refueling scenes

That’s awesome Deborah. That was tough duty and the crews had to be razor sharp every second. SAC was no joke 🇺🇸. Also a great movie.

As a retired KC-135 Crew chief, I been on SAC alert, watching the crew's scramble to their planes. brings back a lot of memories going to my plane removing engine covers talking to pilot getting engine started and climbing up into the plane waiting for the call to taxi or chute down. I do miss those days of crewing.

I first saw this movie at the Oasis Drive-In Theater (now a trailer park) just outside of Chicago's O'Hare Field as a kid with my parents back in 1964. I remember the beginning but fell asleep about a third of the way into the flick. I sure enjoy it now as I have that DVD copy of it.

0:59 That buzzer you hear when the alert is called, is the same as we had on our phone at work. It was rated at 115 db. Only thing louder was our microwave link phone siren. It was rated at 120 db. You didn't want either to go off when under them unless you had either ear plugs or other hearing protection on.

How the hell did Hudson and Taylor stand right by the runway with those B-52s taking off without going totally deaf. I had a B-52 take off right over me when I was in high school. My ears rang for3 straight days.
So I just signed up to pay ten bucks a month for KZbin Red and now I gotta pay a buncha U.K. bucks to watch Gathering Of Eagles? Screw this I'm just gona buy the DVD on Amazon and only pay once! WTF???
