Great review of a cracking little jet. You can solve the brakes on landing problem by going to the 'systems.cfg' file (...community>simskunkworks G91>simobjects>aeroplanes>simskunkworks G91) and under [BRAKES] set auto_brakes=0

This is the case 1 landing procedure which is mainly used for carrier landings.... but it's very common for military fighter joins on inland airbases too. The Eurofighters of the airbase I'm stationed at, as an military aircraft refuelling operator, do the same.... they pass the airbase on low altitude, in formation of 3-4 fighters, than turn right for the landing procedure. The aircrafts in the formation enter the turn with just a few seconds in between them, that gives enough space and time for each pilot to land. This saves a lot of time and airspace for landing multiple fighter jets in short time.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. The Case 1 is a pattern specific to aircraft carrier operations. It's criteria, speeds heights etc. are basically set for an aircraft to position behind a moving landing area with an offset centreline. An airfield pattern for a fast jet has a similar oval pattern. We used the term run in and break for the initial part of joining the circuit but the structure of a fast jet traffic pattern is generally a short level period over the runway, a level turn (left or right depending on the airfield) during which the aircraft loses energy. Some aircraft will start configuring in the turn others after the turn. There is then a level downwind leg followed by a descending turn into final. I enjoyed them greatly when I had a brief spell flying in hawks as aircrew. The pattern in the Fiat's POH differs significantly. It has no straight and level sections at all. Basically, it is a single continuous spiral descent aiming to roll out on final as per the diagram. So as I say there are differences between this approach, a regular fast jet approach and a case 1.

good review - balanced and reasonable in re what the devs have done and what the sim is doing. Seems like a really nice jet. reminds me of a somewhat more advanced F-86 Sabre (though I believe the G91 was ground attack focused). Appreciate you having a go at the spiral landing pattern. I think that'd work well for any long nose aircraft - like warbirds and such.

Good review thanks. Aerodynamically, it looks like all aircraft share the same Asobo flight model? No adverse yaw is seen. I tried the Da62 mod available from GitHub or Flightsimto and the modder has managed to add some adverse yaw into the flight model. He's also added a snap into the low speed stall. Additionally he's added some features to the engine, which as you know is the single rail diesel. Give it a try Rich and see what you think. Anyway thanks again for the test of this old bird. The nav system allows five WP to be added but apart from that, there's only the ADF, for radio nav, so we are back in the 1960's!😉

Yes, sadly aerodynamics seems to be very FSX thus far but we have yet to see any high fidelity systems or flight models. Fingers crossed we see them sooner than later.

@@flightsim481 agreed. The DA has had some tweaks. kzbin.info/www/bejne/maW9c4qlfJybY6c The wind model in live weather has improved, gone are the paper (model) plane jerks. So there is some hope. The world scenery is beautiful, but I hope this isn't going to turn into an Xbox game?

@@davidh7280 You know Rich, I recently tried the Extra 300 in this sim. Give it a go and see how poor the rudder effectiveness is? I cant side slip the Extra, a Knife Edge (classic airshow manoevre for the type) doesnt work. Perhaps the recent control update may allow us to fix the rudder control. There is something amiss with the aerodynamics in here. My opinion of course!

the vhf nav radio doesnt work, the 2nd dial cannot be turned aside numbers 8 and 9. this leaves you stuck only with freqs from 118 mhz to 119. very bad.

Great review once again, thanks. Regarding the turbulence/wobble at low altitudes have you gone into the Weather tab and turned off the low level wind layer which seems to appear as a default?

Yeh, the gauge text material is radon I think, I'm pretty sure that's the stuff that was used for glow in the dark things, back in the day

Radon ordinarily exists as a gas, but as it is cooled it becomes phosphorescent yellow, deepening to glowing red as it is chilled below its freezing point. Actinium also glows. Actinium is a radioactive metal that emits a pale blue light in a darkened room. Super cooled Radon was used a lot back in the day for this type of thing.

Was a lovely jet but now is just uncontrollably silly! Can’t even control it now
