It was with great pleasure that I listened to and watched a podcast about the fascinating journey of a young English aristocrat, Sir Henry.Wonderful drawings and curious excerpts from the memories of a young traveler are a real pleasure. It's like traveling with him. I was particularly curious to hear Sir Henry's opinion of Russia at that time. Many thanks to Dr. Adam. As always, it's professional, you'll learn something new for yourself, it's beautiful and interesting.

The recounting of the journey you have introduced to us through his memoir, generates an exclusive and rewarding perspective into such a unique slice of life and time. This wonderful demonstration literally paints for us a series of pictures depicting the phenomenon of the early nineteenth centry grand tour.

It was delightful to hear about Henry Richard Greville (1779-1853) Lord Brooke - and later 3rd Earl of Warwick and his Grand Tour's adventures. I was wondering whether the young Lord has left any account of how much money he carried and how was the exchange of currencies made in each country he visited. The Lord lived and witnessed on his travels the history that we study as historical events which has happened so long ago far removed from our own present. I found the Lord quite accomplished as a watercolorist. His work must be preserved as a historical document and illustration of the time and places of his travels. When I was studying for a master's degree in art history, I remember looking at a portfolio "Specimens of Polyautography" published in 1803 and observing his atmospheric print "Landscape with Old Trees by Water" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. One can almost feel the wind thrusting, breaking the branches, blowing the leaves into the air, as if we had just witness the fury of the storm and the damaged old trees. Once again we see the Lord at his best, not just as a scriber, but in this case portraying his own experience. His diaries and art works must be seen as an important contribution to the British and European's histories. What great adventure was the Grand Tour specially for a British aristocrat.
