A Geocaching Horror Story: "528" GIFF 2023 Finalist- Geocaching International Film Festival

It was lots of fun creating this 2023 GIFF film because it was based off of two Geocaches that I found in our early years of Geocaching. When we started in 2013, I had no idea that there was a "distance limit" of 528 feet between geocaches. I remember finding two caches in Kirkland that were within 60 to 70 feet from each other. I thought nothing of it at the time and it wasn't until I went to an event that I found out that there used to be "no distance" limits between caches in the early years of geocaching. When I was thinking up "scary" ideas for a new GIFF, I thought, "What if there was an accident and the distance limit was reduced to 5 feet?"
It was also fun being more behind the camera instead of being a main character in my own film. It was fun working with and directing Paul and Carlos in the office scene. Working with "The Kid" is always a blast and it was fun filming her scene. Did you know that scene wasn't even planned to be in this film? It's true! :)
It is an honor being a finalist in this year's Geocaching International Film Festival. There were so many good films this year. The Kid and I both liked "Tilius Travel". Other films I liked were: "Hidden Tracks", "Geocare" and "Don E.T.".

Thanks! The graphics were copyright free scenes that I found on KZbin. I took those scenes into Adobe Premiere and just used the Title Maker to create the graphic designs and text on them. Pretty easy stuff.

I'm not an LOLer by nature, but The Kid finding one in her jacket was a 10/10 geocaching joke, including the whole premise and setup. This would def be one of the skits in my imaginary Geocaching Tv Show Variety Hour, hosted by Ralph Fiennes. For realsies, good job. A true contender.

Thanks, man! That means a lot. Just think, the whole scene with The Kid was added on a whim. Brock Whall was supposed to have more dialogue and then the whole wake up scene was going to be like Groundhogs Day and just repeat (that part wasn't even in the original storyboards either). The thrills of changing things on the spot! :P

That was a really good entry. Didn't see the scrolling quotes on the big screen. Was paying too much attention to the Kid, who by the way, added a lot to this film. Good thing you added her in.
