Nice post Greg! I enjoy my M10-5 a bunch and it has been my Service Revolver. Got it used in 1982, and showed the same wear spots. After many years, met a gunsmith friend, and did a refinish in dark bluing. Also installed an orange insert in the front sight hoping my eyes will be ok as age grabs on. At 68 now, I really appreciate that insert. My Wife keeps it handy in her nightstand with 2 speedloaders of 158 SWJHP +P's. Perfection. Thank you.

Merry Christmas, Greg! Always glad to see a Lionquest video posted. Your channel is a major reason I started buying older revolvers. I probably wouldn't own an old S&W model 64 if it wasn't for this channel. Back in the day, service revolvers had to work well every time the trigger was pulled, so they were made to a very high standard. Officers' lives depended on it. My model 64 is very well-used (a police trade-in), but I would trust it to work for many, many years to come.

Those old police revolvers are something special! They may look a little worn, but all that use they have the smoothest triggers. Be forewarned: owning a revolver like that can cause you to start collecting them. There is no 12-step program for this. I now own 3 model 10-5's and 2 model 15's and a bunch of snubby .38s. As a collector, when asked how many revolvers I have, my answer is truthfully: "One less than I need." 😁. Merry Christmas, everyone and I hope you all have a good New Year!

My first issued revolver was also a Model 10 with a FIVE inch barrel! Holsters were a bit of a challenge, but my agency bought their leather goods from a local company that made them to order. We also shot some from 50 yards with our 158 grain lead semi-wadcutter +P rounds. Our administration was opposed to hollow-points at the time, but that round did its job on more than one occasion! Please keep up the wheel gun videos.

Greg, I love your videos and respect your bona fides. I came into a revolver like yours only much older, about 106 years old. It has no bluing, just brown and mostly worn to gray. It has been abused and battered, but it shot well and the lock works are tight. I replaced the barrel with a heavy one (ca 1957) as I noticed the groups were getting larger and did not feel safe. I then replaced the cylinder and crane with what looks like a brand new one. The new cylinder not only has perfect bluing but the chamber walls are significantly thicker, so I feel safe about shooting +P ammo on occasion. Anyway I share your love for wheel guns, especially double action S&W. This Frankenstein gun of mine ain't pretty but it has a lot of history and will continue for quite some time yet. Keep up your very good videos my friend and so long.

My godmother has one of these. Interesting story how she got it too. It's the only firearm she has, and she keeps it nearby for self-defense. @@LionquestFitness Well, from what I remember (this is from when we were visiting her back in 2021), she got it in Germany when she was stationed in Europe back in the early 1990's. An enlisted/officer, forget which, found out his girlfriend/wife (forget which) was having an affair and bought the revolver to kill her. One way or another, it didn't happen, and it ended up in a shop where my godmother bought it. She'd been keeping it loaded with 158gr LRN until I bought her some ammo for it. When I asked if she had better ammo, she said she had someone buy a box of ammo for her, but when I saw it, I pointed out to her that the ammo the individual bought for her was .38 Super.

Had lots of opportunity to observe, inspect, and even shoot more than a few. Pencil barrels also have a different balance in the hand than the bull tubes, subjective which is better, I liked both.

Finally, I ghost story I haven't heard before! Lol. My lukewarm on guns friend a few years back told me he bought some sort of gun from an FFL here in Florida years previous for $200.00 and he wanted an assessment as to what it really was and if it was viable for home defense. I have him bring the thing in and you guessed it; pencil barrel 4" Smith .38- I put it through its paces and everything was as it should be except it had finish wear from him storing it in a leather holster in a high humidity environment. Beyond that, it easily passes all the tests. He really didn't want it and wanted to roll out of it for some sort of auto, a .380 I seem to recall. So after I tell him the true condition of it and just how viable I believe they are, I convinced him to keep it (not exactly my intention mind you) but I definitely didn't want to mislead the guy just so I could get the gun. That of course is dirt bag, no character having behavior unbecoming of decency. My # checking got it isolated to around 1972. Once in a while I'll still chat with him as we're former coworkers and I always make a point to mention that if he's ready to unload the thing, just please call me first. I'm still waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting....Thanks for the video. Looking forward to the next installment.

Marc Thomas makes high quality holsters.Been on several livestreams with him.Heck of a good guy.What grain ammo do you use with these older revolvers?
@LionquestFitness
@LionquestFitness 7 ай бұрын
Hi Marc! 158 grain if I can find it. The shooting was with 130 grain PPU FMJ; which surprisingly for PPU, doesn't seem like bad ammo.

Hi Greg, very fine gun! I have a question, seeing the holster you have chosen: if you wore it crossdraw, could you unsnap it with your weak hand as the strong hand goes to the grip and save some time in the draw?

I need to try that Carlo. I'd say probably.

Is that a wide blade front sight? Is that stock. I have two older 1905 M&Ps (1917 and 1919) and they definitely have a skinny blade. I thought the 50s ones did too but I’m not sure. Anyway thanks again.

@@LionquestFitness i have practiced off hand (for me, left) reloads, so that the motions when carrying a revolver or a semi-auto are similar. Strip/eject with left hand, reach for reload on left side (about 8 o'clock), insert new rounds. Gun never leaves shooting hand. Makes PERFECT sense to me.

@@LionquestFitness one of my most carried semi-autos has been my Makarov, with a heel mag release. So i tens to atrip/pulo mags out in all my semis with thebleft hand. Although on mag release buttons behind the trigger gaurd I tens to use my right hand thumb to push the release, my lefy hand still works on pulling the mag out. Then going to my replacement mag. I have had a number of inatructors try to "corrwct" this "flick the mag away with the gun." but thay won't work with my Maks or my 92S, so.... I have an off hand reload of my 856 video on my channel. Just keeping it simplw for my reactions. Not 3 totally different styles of reload. Just like a good "heaven & earth" thrpugh, it is just minor tweaks that way.
