I would include firing multiple shots with one's carry ammunition. For example: Draw and fire 1 / Draw and fire 2 / draw and fire 3 /Reload/ Then, draw and fire 3 / draw and fire 2 / draw and fire 1. That is only 12 rounds, but good training. Also, practicing firing strong hand only and weak hand only is a very good idea. (Background = 15 years as a federal law enforcement academy firearms instructor)

Why would someone carry a revolver today? I keep an ammo journal on all my handguns detailing the ammo they like and don’t like. My semi-auto Smiths, Berettas, Rugers and Colts all have particular rounds they are finicky with. The journals for my J and K frames have the word “Bang” written next to every round tried. That’s why I carry a wheel gun. Great video Greg!

@ZoneFighter1 Being a retired LEO I appreciate Webb was pro police and felt police officers should have a high degree of professional conduct. On the other hand, it is disappointing that Webb was anti 2A. Another TV cop who was avid gun control was Jack Lord who worked hard politically to bring strict control to Hawaii. The Constitution doesn't say guns are for only police and military, but that "...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Arms was capitalized for a reason.

Greg, I remember reading an article in GUNS magazine about 1973 regarding an Air Force study of sidearms. Personnel from 18 year old recruits to 55 year old NCOs were provided with contemporary Cold War/WW2 and law enforcement service revolvers and pistols available at the time. No wondernies, polymers, yet, and the .40, 10mm, and .357 SIG were yet to be. The K frame S&W in 2" and 2 1/2" barrel were fastest on the draw with the most center mass hits on target. Small pocket pistol ppk types were close second. Larry Potterfield Midway does a 1 minute presentation, quick timed snap shot from the bench demonstration too, but from a holster would be more relevant and useful. Revolvers still have relevancy.

My first Detective issue was a 2" S&W Model 10 round butt .38 Special. It was a nickel version. I purchased my own revolver a Colt Diamondback .38 Special 2.5". Over the years owned and used blue steel Model 10's in the 2" ROUND BUTT ( my favorite) .38 Special revolvers. I've even hit running rabbits with one so they can be very accurate and a smooth DA the more its used the better it gets. Yep have one to this day, B/S round butt blue steel and carry it some too when I feel nostalgic, old school but still viable today.

Thanks for another great video, Greg...LOVE those older S&W wheelguns..the leaf spring K frames have such a better trigger pull than the coil spring smaller J frames....& you made some good points about a 2 inch barrel being less likely to be grabbed by an attacker during a close quarters scuffle & that a MAJOR disadvantage of semi autos is that they can be pushed out of battery in a struggle & won't fire, whereas that doesn't happen with a revolver...you also mentioned the wound channel from a gunshot & some people don't realize how absolutely devestating a contact gunshot is..if the gun barrel is touching the attacker's body...or even a few inches away...the expanding gasses that propel the bullet down the barrel follow the bullet into the wound, causing even more tissue damage as well as contaminating the wound with all sorts of gunpowder residue that can lead to infection IF the attacker survives the gunshot initially...those gasses continue to expand inside the wound & burst outward leaving a distinctive starfish shaped opening... Your videos are awesome and those are "JUST THE FACTS"...👍👍

Hi Jeff - a reality check, in more ways than one, is for a gun owner to google autopsy photos of gunshot wounds. Its gruesome and ghoulish but it wakes you up to the responsibilities of firearm ownership. It also dispels the foolishness of the fear mongers who take the absolute worst situations that law enforcement encounters and uses that as a template for how ordinary citizens should carry and train.

I still have a model 82. Very accurate and more fun to shoot than my 605 and 856. Of course with hundreds if not thousands more rounds through it than the other 2 it should be well broke in . Plus 4” barre compared to 2” on 605 and 3” on 856.

My first issue revolver as a boot detective was a nickel plated S&W Model 10 round butt .38 Special. I purchased a 2.5" Colt Diamondback .38 Special and carried it. Ive used off duty the round butt Model 10 2" in .38 Special but blue finish... I favor a blue gun. Still have one to this day in like new condition.

Two biggest advantages of carrying a two inch K frame is that the leaf spring trigger pull is soooo much better than the coil spring J frame and that, unlike almost every semi auto pistol, when it comes to close quarters self defense, the revolver will still fire if the barrel is accidentally or purposely pressed directly against the attacker's body...an action that places almost every semi auto, except the Springfield XD, out of battery & inert... A contact wound like that is even more destructive & deadly than a shot from several feet away...the rapidly expanding gasses follow the bullet into the wound ...still expanding & ripping the tissue in a distinctive starfish shaped wound and the powder residue and everything else going into the wound increases the chances of serious infection...

That is an interesting supposition. With modern heat sensors, drones and night vision equipment, as well as sophisticated body armor, the best service most could do would be guerilla warfare as opposed to cannon fodder. It would be travel light. Stock S&W Sport II with two point sling and Glock 19.

@@LionquestFitness Great advice, Greg. But for me, I am too old to be lugging around a multi-purpose Sport II in case of invasion, so I just have to depend on my Beretta 92F in any guerilla operation. I also have a Glock 19 but I can hit targets better shooting my Beretta.

Nothing wrong with a Model 60. Also, a Taurus 856 is an economical and more ergonomic choice for a six shot snub. S&W is leaving money on the table by not modernizing and streamlining a Model 10 snub.

Good scene from the Dragnet 1966 tv movie (you can actually find it on youtube), the police have a serial killer cornered on top of a bluff during a thunderstorm. Joe Friday takes his coat off and climbs up the bluff with mud and rock and checks his gun (M-10 snub) after slipping in the mud and it’s all as gritty and grimed up as he is but he knows it’s reliable and and ready to help him jump the killer from behind.

That’s a handy revolver. Have you ever tried the Chiappa Rhino 200DS. It’s quite ugly snubbie (unless you watched _Blade Runner_ as a kid) and slightly larger/heavier. But it totes 6 rounds of .357 magnum and its weird design allows for more manageable recoil and quick follow up shots. The old timers knew what they were doing. Their gunfighter philosophies were already well developed even if a little odd. For example, I’ve yet to see anyone rocking a Fitz revolver these days. Though there’s no doubt they were effective. Some of these old guys are still with us. I used to read Masad Ayoob’s articles in gun magazines (no way to confuse his name with another guy’s) as a teenager and he still does instructional videos on KZbin. And I’m only a few years younger than you.
@LionquestFitness
@LionquestFitness 2 жыл бұрын
Chiappa is out of my price range - but in terms of psychological intimidation, I'd say it would be an ugly gun to look down the barrel of. I was reading Massad in all kinds of print media back the eighties. I still enjoy watching him on the Bill Wilson channel.
