Stunning guitars and typically good Gibson vibes. Great demo.

I’ve got three. Gave one away as it never ever stayed in tune. Spent a fortune on another to try to get it to stay in tune. And the third one I use as modern art on my wall as it is a sexy looking guitar. If I want that Gibson sound, I head to one of my custom shop Les Pauls ….or the epiphone which sounds better than the name in the headstock suggests.

I’ve been ‘Jonesing’ for one of the exclusive SG supremes, the black 3 pickup model in particular. Although they all look nice, the wine red one is gorgeous too. The headstock inlay is cool but I’m still on the fence with that attribute. The strap button behind the neck has never bothered me so for me I’d rather have this installed in its normal spot behind the neck. The Ebony boards are my absolute favorite fretboard materials as well, they just feel fantastic and look beautiful with the contrast of the inlays.

I learned something important from the '04 SG Special Faded I just found for well under a grand. My Gibsons and Fenders are all worth more than triple this thing, yet I wouldn't pit any of them against a Custom Shop of course. However this SG has a delightfully unskinny neck which has no paint or grain fill and 20 years' wear, so it feels like what the Custom Shop necks are trying to achieve. It weighs 5.4 pounds. That's not a typo. I've been looking for any mention of a lighter one, there's a mention somewhere of a junior weighing the same, but that's it. Rings like a bell, far louder than any of the other ten guitars here. Local boutique scatter wound pickups, and by some small miracle no neck dive at all. I no joke would take the Pepsi Challenge every day of the week against a Custom Shop with this guitar. So don't judge a guitar until you've felt its neck, weight, balance, acoustic properties and upper access for yourself. I wouldn't have found the Holy Grail Gibson if I judged it on aesthetics, that's for sure. I'll keep all the nice guitars for the studio and the channel's sake, but if I had my druthers I'd sell them all and just play the SG. 5.4! 5.4.

I have a blueberry fade Modern and I like it a lot, but don’t totally love it. It doesn’t have fret nibs and the fretboard wasn’t properly scraped and finished at production. The Burstbucker Pro Rhythm and Pro Lead pickups were rather harsh to me and didn’t sound good split at all. I swapped them out for Seymour Duncan Saturday Night Specials and they sound much better. Still quite bright sounding, but it’s likely partly because of the maple cap on it whereas Standards are all mahogany. I will likely keep it for forever, but I don’t know that I’d replace it if something happened to it.

Too pricey for my blood, but as an SG guy, if you told me I could have any guitar, money no object, I'd very likely reach for that red one! Excellent demo, as always.

How do these pickups compare to the V-Mod 2 double taps in the American professional 2 tele deluxe? I feel like this guitar is very cool but after hearing the V-Mod 2s I can’t imagine having splitting humbukers that don’t use that approach.

Nice demo, but I am not a dentist. To me a SG is and will always be a understated workhorse guitar, which this is obviously not. If they would do a regular or, better, 61-type SG with an ebony fretboard and locking tuners... that would be enough for me. Gold, headstock binding and that headstock inlay may suit a LP Custom or a 355 - these have always been posh, but this just looks gaudy (to me). No idea how consistent they are, but I can't say that I was impressed by the book-matching of the tops. Even less impressed by the split sounds. Even in humbucker mode this thing sounded pretty thin with very little bite (compared to my 61), no idea if that's because of the pickups, the maple cap, or both?!

I agree!!! I have a 2012 61 satin finish SG with 57 paf’s ,and it’s the best sounding guitar I own! Just plug into my jtm 45 or plexi and that’s all you need!!

My experience is that the maple top SG do tend to be brighter. But that gets into a tone wood argument so…
@JAL-cc8jd
@JAL-cc8jd 22 күн бұрын
It’s both. I have the Modern and it sounded bright and thin with the BB Pros and split they sounded horrible. I swapped them for Seymour Duncan Saturday Night Specials. They sound really good, but the maple top definitely contributes to the brighter sound. My SG Standard with SD Pearly Gates sounds better to me. Those are killer pickups IMO.

I like the Modern, Epiphone or Gibson. Obviously this is an extension of that model. But I think the asymmetrical neck was a big part of that draw. It looks like they’ve dropped that aspect. Otherwise, this is just a Modern with more bling for a LOT more money. Not for me. But great review as always.

I'm an SG lover and owner. This is a POOR review from Alamo cos they've missed the 2 biggest issues with recent Gibson SGs. They've had serious neck dive and neck wobble in their past 3 releases. The same issues have arisen periodically on and off over past 40 years. Depends on the model. Alamo completely ignores both issues so we don't know if this Supreme has them too. The recent Epiphone (inspired by Gibson) SGs are actually better, much cheaper SGs than any that Gibson make. They don't have neck dive or wobble. While I'm not a fan of gold hardware, and would never buy one, I'm no fan of Gibson Burstbucker pups either. There are much better humbucker pups available made by other companies. I do like the finishes on these Supremes though :)

I thought we had mentioned that the slightly heavier half maple body fixed the neck dive issue. No wobble. We have mentioned it in past videos when present. - Chris

@@AlamoMusic Past videos on different SG models are irrelevant imo. And how would you know anyway. You don't test them with straps, either in your store or on video. Many reports from SG owners say these recent models do have both neck dive and wobble
