Paid $1200 for my Taylor 512 in 1998. Has it gotten more expensive?

i'd take a floor model if it's discounted and given new strings.

Both pick ups sound horrible: the Martin's sounds like a toy guitar, the Taylor's sounds like a piece of shit. Here's the difference though: the Martin pickup's sound is correctable if plugged to an external third party quality DI like LR Baggs, while the Taylor's will make any other device useless, it will always sound like a piece of shit. What's worse is that Taylor puts the same piece of shit undesaddle pickup system in each and everyone of their guitars, from $500 to $10,000 ones making them all sound like pieces of shit no matter what, which is something inexplicable. Also inexplicable is how much resources they put in lying to you claiming that a higher priced guitar has a different and better undersaddle pick up: it's a blatant lie, they are all the same! If you want to play your guitar plugged with a beautiful sound that matches or enhances the characteristics of your guitar, you'll have to invest money on a third party quality one and replace the original one. Acoustically speaking the only advantage of the Taylor is the playability, which is annoyingly consistent through all their line, no matter what price range, to the point of castrating their guitars of any individual personality: you can buy a Taylor online and you won't have surprises, it will play exactly like any other Taylor you may try at any guitar store. With Martin every guitar will fill different, you'll have to try several of the same model before you find the one that feels better for you; but at the end of the day Martins sounds 100 times better than Taylors, which have no character, dull mid frequencies and the same annoying metallic (metallic, not harmonics) end on the treble strings and notes.

I believe those guitars have different scale lengths, with the Yamaha being shorter. I have always perceived longer scale guitars to be tighter and more punchy. I wonder how much the scale length is a difference in those two.

I'm loyal to Martin's modified-v necks. I dislike other Martin necks as much as I dislike other brands' shallow necks. I tried an Alvarez modified-v neck, liked it, bought it. I haven't tried any other modified-v necks because they are generally put only on very expensive guitars.

I just played a Pro II side-by-side with an Ultra. The Pro II made me want to play and play - the Ultra felt somehow “sterile.” I can’t put my finger on it but I might have to pick up a II … $1700 in 2024, $600 or more for the Ultra.

A little bit like the difference between a D28 and a D18. That Dove is articulate, crisp and balanced. Perfect for some types of music like finger style work.

It would Be interesting if this guitar was compared to a Gibson J15. Love the warmth. My J15 having Sitka spruce top and Walnut side and back. I always love the low ends, gives the songs depth. Love my J15. Good review.

The ES330 I purchased had the nut glued back together. I could clearly see the crack line going from low E to high E. Also, why don't they shim the bridge P90 at the factory. The pickups are so unbalanced that middle and bridge positions are unusable in real life situation. So basicaly purchasing the shim is just obligatory. That reglued nut just ruined my purchase. It was kind of the guitar purchase of my life. Listen Gibson, some people who buy your instruments have saved up with great effort for the " legend" Well, the guitar went back, and bye bye Gibson for me.

I was able to snag a brand new PRS SE Silver sky at a Sam Ash music store closing sale for 600 bucks and absolutely love it, that being said id still love to own a fender. I am of the belief, you can never have to many guitars.

Quick note about the Anthem comment at 19:00! I play a D-15m and opted for the Anthem SL. Simpler controls, but the little volume knob has no problem working with a 15 series Martin. I'd also posit that the smaller controls don't dampen the top as badly as the standard Anthem does.

Martin specified in a memo a good year ago that sitka and Lutz would no longer be differentiated. I have several different necks on my guitars: lengths, shapes and widths. 8 prefer thick and wider a(30s heel).

Is that 00012e's back bound in a way that will protect against the koa laminate chipping? Also, well I know a solid mahogany 00018 should sound better on a microphone, how well does the pickup work in the 00012e? In fact, I would love to see a comparison of the (000-depth body) D16e and the 00012e, demonstrating their sound acoustically or using the pickup.

Martin’s confusion or lack of details in the specs gets old and annoying, especially when shelling out $5k for a guitar. Gibson occasionally gets muddy in the specs as well. Anyway, love Johnny Marr, love these signature OMs, and love Martin utilizing the LR Baggs more.
