You managed to break the Arevaci general (noble fighters), which was good. His slingers were exposed too when you broke his general. You just weren't able to organize a rear guard at the wall when you went all in. If you guys were just a little more orderly in how you sent your men in past the walls, you would've made it.

Exactly. If they'd put up a solid rear guard defending the breaches, I think they could have won. But the way it happened, the cavalry just ran amok among his troops, and killed a ton of archers in the city.

@@loenk2651 Yeah, but a more orderly push would've held the walls a minute longer, which was all the Chickens needed to win at that point. As for the archers, Apollo could've put them up on the walls, unless they were out of ammo (didn't seem like it).

That was an intense Battle! Winged Whumsars went all in and put a lot of effort! Its Hard For Crimson Chickens now, they gotta beat Ursas or they are done! Apollo has Watched tons of TW battles and still does some mistakes like forgetting his troops!

Our turn to give comments ;-) : 2 archer units on the walls, Biggest mistake in my opinion, if you fight a cav faction , you need every possible spear unit you have available in the frontlines. So the tortisses should have been pushed by other units ( not youre spearunits ) so you had 3 more spear units to guard the frontline.... Also you could have frevented outflanking by sending 2 units in each break of the walls. First attack wave should have been donne by 6 units to prevent outflanking . Also 1 good opinion , you both maded a well balanced armie with good possability's .

This is what I thought too. What's the difference between 1 big breach and 3 small ones? If you send in units on their own they will get outflanked regardless.

I know it's too late to comment on this and I've already read a couple of comments that say the same thing, but I think the main reason you lost was because you didn't compose the two armies well for the roles they should have had; That is, if you have a Greek faction and a Barbarian faction against an Iberian faction and another nomadic faction, the most obvious thing would have been to divide the roles based on the strength of each faction to optimize the results. The advantage of the Greeks is their variety of spear units and that of the Barbarians is their attack units, so instead of composing the two armies as if they were going to fight independently, the ideal would have been to leave Epirus the role of make a defensive formation around your army, taking advantage of its variety of hoplites (make a totally anti-cavalry army), while with a couple of elite units (such as the Royal Peltasts) it could support you in the final combats, while You should have made an army 100% focused on defeating the Iberians by assault (lots of numbers, a couple of elite units and lots of projectiles). In this way, with the two concentrating on each of the players, it would have been easier to micromanage the units and victory would be assured, all that was left was for Epirus to send you reinforcements in a drop count if needed, but with an army of hoplites , the nomads would never have made it through your lines.

I can only say it again and again: all the tortoises destroy the picture and the feeling for me. The thing wasn't mass-produced and certainly not common. They just look totally absurd, mainly because it just destroys such a stone wall like its nothing. Total nonsense.😅 It's also not a tactical depth because it destroys the wall 100% without being able to prevent it. With artillery it is at least tactical how much ammo you want / can use for it. They are also the reason why walls are not defended. Because it's pointless with 100% success chance.

I'm curious about how Faction select works in the tournament. Do you know what you'll play against? Does it work like in casual multiplayer, where people just switch factions whenever they like? Or does everyone have to decide which faction they'll pick, before the lobby is created? Because here for example I'm wondering why my Chickens didn't go for more spear units when they saw (if they did) Massagatae (or however the fuck that is pronounced). Gatae has some cheap spears that work wonders, not to mention the more expensive spears. Epirus also has quite a strong selection of spear armed units. Now, I haven't seen the match yet, I don't know how it'll turn out but 3 minutes and 31 seconds into the match I'm very worried because I do not see a lot of spear and at the same time i see a lot of horses! :(

I feel like the box positioning of troops was a bit sloppy? Should have one faction work on the cav/protection (preferably the faction with more spears) and the other faction could focus on the walls. (The same way you say that in defence you shouldn’t spread out and just focus on your section) That way there is no confusion about moving troops or tightening the circle because it seems some units got left behind when the other player moved theirs.

2 more spear units and you had more chanses... With the units you brought : Shouldend have used spearunits to push the tortises, They could have been usefull to defend against the cav even they are crap units .... Anny cav dont like to charge into spearunits. There was a possability to win for sure, also you could had sendid 2 units of archers to deal with the enemy slingers... There was a chanse Apollo !

I think staying outside so long in such a big area was a big mistake. First u dealt with the cav pretty good but as the walls were down u should have moved all the archers inside the walls and fight the slingers. meanwhile outside i would have left the spear units supported by noble swords dealing with the cavs. without slinger support the fiight insight would have been much easier.

Maybe a dumb question, how come no one uses the Rome faction? Is it against the rules or do people just not like them?

each faction has a number of points attached to them, with the worse factions having a higher number of points. in this tourney, I'd assume Rome has a really low score (like in the negatives) take what I say with a grain of salt, I'm no expert

AND you can use a faction only once. So if you use romans on a playoff, probably better. You match it with a bad faction on attack, for example (if rome is -4 and attack is +3, you take a +2 faction), and still take 1 point home. But anything more than -1 is very hard in the group stage. Imagine winning a full 2-0 map, but making only 2-3 points. WW made 4 this time, and still have to attack.

Just a small piece of advice. You shouldn't use shield wall when getting shot by archers because the units don't raise their shields..

Its a stat thing so even if they aren't raising their shields physically the stats increase decreasing casualties

​@@hhassana The armor stat is not 1 thing, it is split between the actual armor and the shield which includes a blocking chance. If you're units raise their shields to block you take fewer casualties than if they don't. That's why you get more kills shooting into a unit that is in combat than one that isn't. Units that are in combat don't raise their shields either. The reason back shots and sword side shots are so deadly is because the shield stat in the armor is completely gone because the blocking chance goes down to 0.. This isn't as bad as a back shot, but the blocking chance on the shield is lowered for an attack from above. For a slinger or a javelin shooting straight on you are correct.

​@@jamesfox686the shield doesnt need to be raised in order to block, so being in a shield wall, in combat or standing still with ur shields up while being shot at, all give the same % of hit chance on your men. Being in shield wall increases the density of your men, making the enemy archers miss less shots since you are all clumped up. Stretched out and loose formations are best when being shot at.

I think you had the right idea of tightening the formation against the cav and pouring in your troops into the breach, but you were too slow in committing to that strategy. Instead of every couple minutes tightening the formation a bit, do it completely in just 1 minute.
