At the moment ( 2024) i would skip both and go for a LASER projector, lumens and contrast is way more important than the difference between 1080 versus 4k, and MOST importent for a home projector is power consumption, lack of heat, and the LAMPLIFE, witch is around 30.000 hours on a laser projector

On Amazon UK the Optoma HD143X is currently £335.99 and the Viewsonic PX747-4K £809 So hardly a good comparison. If that's the cheapest 4K on the market then it would be better to compare it to a much more expensive 1080p and looking at the prices over the last year the Optima has always been around half the cost (and now less). For me this video is steering me towards the Optima so a big thumbs up for that!

Did you use the 4k pixel shifting resolution in your comparison with the PX 747? The HD 143X can pop out a 4k resolution with pixel shift and upscaling. Which gives 8.3 mil pixels compared to 4k at 8.8 mil pixels. I wouldn't make a decision based upon this comparison unless he used the 4k resolution capabilities of the HD 143X.

you should have mentioned whether the content is 4k or 1080p. What would be the image quality of 1080p content projected by this 4k projector?
@jamessenft6165 жыл бұрын
Idk if it applies to projectors or not, but when it comes to 4k panels it depends on the original resolution of the content. For example if you have a movie that was recorded in 4k and compressed to be viewed in 1080p it would actualy look better on a 4k display than on a 1080p display.

This video is Garbage and was Garbage when it was made. The Optoma Projector he uses is a budget 1080p Projector that cost $500.00 then. Optoma had many other 1080p Projectors at that time that were vastly better. The ViewSonic 4K Projector is pure Garbage 🗑. It only has a 1,200 contrast ratio vs 23,000 for the Optoma Projector. With TVs as well as Projectors you can buy a low end 4K TV which is Garbage. Today it is hard to find a 1080p TV but 4 years ago when this video was made you certainly could buy a 1080p TV that had better picture Quality than many 4K TVs. 80% of what you watch on TV is only 1080p or less. A lot of what is available on TV is only 480p still. So the answer to the question is a Good 1080p Projector is better than a budget 4K Projector.

This is what I thought. The colour rendition on the Optoma was horrible. This is far more important to me than resolution tbh and so few reviews address this aspect and I wish reviewers would try and get the colour output as comparable as possible when doing side by sides. In some frames it may have been the higher contrast that meant when the picture is filmed the highlights are blown but it also appeared that the colour rendition looked really bad on the Optoma.

Looks great but unfortunately I have little faith in viewsonic. I had one of their entry range mini projector because everyone was raging about it. It was crap. The image went blurry all the time I had the manually tweak the roller thingy to adjust. It was super noisy as well and out of the blue it just stopped working. When I tried to turn it on it was on a loop of turning itself on and off and never getting to the menu. The controller that came with was the worst quality ever. The buttons were super hard to press. I wasn't umpressed with the UI either. I could never pair my phone to it even though it was supposed to and the apps available were so limited it was completely useless. I gave up on it and now I'm looking for a better projector and I plan on investing a bit more but I'm scared of getting shit hardware and software quality again.

The Optoma gives you a much better picture. The 4K might show better detail but it is Not that much better like you claim. Do a blind test and People will choose the Optoma over the ViewSonic because of the much much better Brighter Colors, Superior Black levels, incredibly Better Contrast. The nearly 23 times better Contrast greatly improves the entire picture.
