Your current work is a significant improvement over the old demo.

It might be that it lacks the feeling? As a game dev, after making over 10 games, I think I found what my forte, is to design base on what is the feeling I want the player to feel moment to moment.

Evaluate it right and make sure you are not chasing a sunk cost fallacy. If you are spending too long time without obvious improvements, maybe you are not sure what your product should be.

The graphics and lighting seem fine if not good, maybe the problem is the gameplay loop
@Cakez77Ай бұрын
It might also be the thumbnail for steam. But yes the gameplay loop was very amateur like and had many flaws.

I don't know.. even in furcifer's case I'm not convinced that that in of itself is conclusive of anything other than the current iteration having a unappealing onboarding. I used to think it was more "meritocratic" but I feel like that there is just too much nuance to it nowadays to make any sort of sweeping statements

What about working on feedbacks and game feel

There is a difference between "grinding" and deliberate practice. Your first demo failed, but instead of fixing things incrementally, you changed everything at once and have yet to see whether your last 3 years are even going into the right direction. What if you figure out that your game is still not fun? It's 3 years, and you don't even have a single working level. You are just walking blindly right now. It's a mistake you spend years on your first ever game, because you are bound to make mistakes. . Even the creator of Stardew Valley released 2 games before finishing his main game. His first game was even released 4 years before he started working on Stardew. It's normal that your first few games will suck, so don't spend a decade on it.

You are on point here yes, I know that i spend to much time on my game atm. But I also did make other smaller games. Like vampire survivors over 1 month, one in c++ the other in Godot. I also dabbled in Celeste. I just didn't put those on steam. The C++ vs is on itch. I don't know what it is but I feel like, while slow, I'm on the right path

I was planning to play your demo until I heard you say it was not good. I will 100% play it if you release a good demo.

The good game theory is delusional at best... Subjective opinions will never yield you a practical result

What do you suggest makes game successful?

Imo the only thing missing for your game to be good is the completion of the progression systems, balancing and levels/content. But It seems you are very often focusing on polishing and adding systems that takes a long time to make and has a smal impact, but is needed to push the game from good to GREAT. I think this is scopecreeping a lot for someone with the goal of pushing out a demo within months. Like hell, spending days on fixing the level editor, banners and new font system under a month from release is crazy. But now as you have moved away from the idea of rushing the demo, your development priorities makes more sense again. As long as you enjoy the progress I think it was the right choice : )

ur game looks like its evolving since when you started, but those pew pew sounds like clapping wooden shoes are annoying xD no offense for me at least and it doesn't feel unique either most TD games use similar annoying sounds maybe if it was more sharp, i think the sounds play a massive role, if it was me playing it right now. i would go options sounds volume down, its not bad! note this its not bad but kinda not pleasing for the ear, its cute game got potential i believe sound should be something else
