Though in your previous video of comparing mkh-50 which is small pencil condenser vs AKGP420 which is large diaphragm - you came to conclusion that AKGP420 was more detailed, punchy and sharp vs more natural mkh50. So, I guess its not necessarily always the case, you are mentioning here, right?

Ahh yes, so a couple of things to touch on here. It's important to note that accuracy and apparent brightness in the top end are two different things. While the P420 feels bright -I believe I said "The P420 has more bite and may be a little more shrill", the MKH50 is still a MUCH more accurate reproduction of the sound. The main point is that SDCs are generally far more accurate in the way they capture sound, whereas LDCs have much more distortion, sometimes good, sometimes bad. Check out the Earthworks reference mics. They have tiny little diaphragms and are known for being the closest to a flat response. Super cool tech!

@@randyrektor wow, I checked earthworks mics and they are... strange at least to those who are seeing them first time. Why I'm asking cause I'm trying to understand actually do i need to buy LDC mic, cause I already bought mkh50 and it sounds amazing and warm to my ears. But with LDC does it brings actually more details or as you've mentioned - its just more distortion (and kind of individual eq of the mic)? For instance JZ11 mic. Maaan, there are so many nuances to the sound, trying to wrap my head around it. Thanks for explanation! appreciate it

@@andriibudim6996 Yeah so generally LDCs capture less detailed information. Each mic still has it's own nuances. Some may be brighter, some darker, some punchier, etc. But generally speaking, SDCs capture sound more accurately because of the speed of the diaphragm. All this to say, the MKH50 is an amazing tool. I'd try out some LDCs if you're interested and use your ears to see what's right for you. It's really the only way to know. Hope this helps!
