It's also those who couldn't be bothered to get their lazy asses off the couch to go and vote. The turnout was 64% and therefore the proportion of the electorate who decided to STAY AT HOME is 36%. More people stayed at home than voted for either candidate. The proportion who voted for Trump is 32% (i.e. 50% of votes cast by those who turned-out) - less than one third of the total number of those eligible to vote. Not exactly the sweeping mandate he claimed.

Would Musk really be eligible to become Speaker ? Since the Speaker of the House is #3 in the line of succession to the Presidency, I would expect that the SOH would need to meet the qualifications of any presidential candidate. Specifically being a natural born US Citizen. At least I'd argue that point over a beer.

Yes, he can be Speaker - you don't have to be an elected member of congress, and strictly speaking he is second in line AFTER the president. The president is number zero because he's already in the post. Number one in line is the VP. However, if the Speaker is ineligible to take over as President (like Musk is not eligible), then that duty falls to the leader of the Senate. After that it falls to cabinet secretaries.

That’s not true. The pay increase is approximately $6000 a year. It’s a cost of living increase. They haven’t had a cost of living increase since 2009. I agree that they are still making too much money for not even doing their jobs.

@festivus4405 except the UNLIKE the pay increase in 2009, which was clearly defined as a one time exception to block this time they are striking the block language from the law. This means it retroactively applies the cola back to 1992 for EVERY year they didn't get an adjustment. You just have to trust that the politicians won't use it that way.
