I ended up splurging for a Silverstone CS382 instead of waiting for Jonsbo to release a sensical micro-ATX case. Still getting the build set up but quite impressed so far.
@kevinoneill21706 ай бұрын
That Silverstone case seems really nice. Not perfect (what case is?), but it checks a lot of boxes. There is a really informative Amazon customer review (with photos) of the CS382 case from October 2023 if you haven't seen it already. I don't know how that customer got their hands on the case so early, but there are a lot of good nuggets and photos in their review regardless.

Good find on that case! What N4 should have been. SFX power supply should make it look less cramped.

I have this Nas Case and I have four 12TB drives on the left and three Micron 9300 U.2 drives on the right hand side. it is perfect for that. I didnt need any cables on the left as I'm using Oculink cables.

What CPU fan cooler would you recommend to put here? As for the description of the case in AliExpress only supports a CPU cooler height of 55mm max, and since I'm mounting an Intel Xeon LGA2011 socket processor... I'm finding it quite difficult to find a proper cooler that will cool up to 100-120W for under 55mm height. Thoughts?
@PeterBrockie17 күн бұрын
I would personally go with an SFX Psu to get more height if you need more cooling or experiment with an AIO cooler. Even a 120mm which I normally wouldn't recommend should handle any 2011 aside from the X299 stuff like the 7980XE.
@versatil8917 күн бұрын
@@PeterBrockie Ialso thought about the AIO but tbh, taking in mind the "maintenance" of AIO (even if its very little) and the space that the pump will take... I'm not sure if its the best option for a 24/7 running server... Could I ask you which CPU coolers could you fit in there and what are their measures (or if you give me the model I can search it myself). And also which PSU are you using? I would like to research for these exact models to check how much height of a CPU cooler I could fit in this case. Thanks for your reply btw!

None of the LGA 2011-3 line will draw more than 150W. An ID Cooling IS-55X might work for you.

my only gripe about this case was mainly the size of ports for the cables wish they where slightly bigger. On second note Glad to see someone do proper review of this case. My video was kind terrible of this case

3:20 cannot store the pull tab and the special slide-in screws in the unused bays, which means they will be prone to getting lost. :/ I mean you and I won't lose them, but we will see these cases on eBay, CraigsList or Goodwill years later with these parts missing :)

If you don't care about size, the Node 804 is unbeatable. No hot swap, but taking 5 min to swap a drive isn't too bad in a homelab.
@nescience786 күн бұрын
Ive had a node 804 for years. I hate it. It;s just annoying everytime I have to work on it. Sure, very doable, but why do I want easy tasks to be harder than they need to be? It also runs hot. No side vent9lation, obstructed top panel. WIth 10 drives and two ssds, it runs hot. For me, Idle drive temps sit mid to high 30's with all fan mounts occupied.
@wojtek-336 күн бұрын
@nescience78 mid to high 30s is pretty normal temp for drives in any system or server. It doesn't need side ventilation as it has front back and top. Its not the easiest case to work on but I only open it like once a year. Not sure why you would be inside a server more often.

This is a really cool case! Similar to Space Aguria which I own - same layout, except it has 4x92mm fans instead of 120mm. I agree about the N4, not a very practical case unfortunately. Thanks for the review!

Putting a 240mm rad in Sagittarius case might not be possible. It looks like it has not much room left at top and bottom after installing those 2 fans. Rads have top and bottom hubs that protrude over the fan spacing, and especially the hub with tubes coming out of it is tall. I would also like to have a version of it that requires assembly, as it should cut down on shipping fees a lot if the box could be flattened by 50% or more.

Nice find on the Sagittarius considering a lot of people consider the N4 a disappointment. I've also seen a no name 9 bay floating around aliexpress for $300 but no idea if it's any good or not.

They really dropped the ball with the N4. It should have been just the N3 but with matx compatibility. If there is not enough space for the psu, only allow flex atx or pico psu

As with most things it depends. Personally I'd rather build my own system with standard parts than be locked into Dell's selection of motherboards, etc. That being said, there's nothing wrong with wanting a ready made machine.

I assumed the N4 would be a n3 just stretched to fit a matx board, which yeah would have made sense and been the perfect nas case. How did they screw it up so much?!? So disappointing.

Sagittarius is cool but 91 dollar shipping?
@PeterBrockie7 ай бұрын
It varies from each seller. That's typical on Aliexpress - just count it as a ~$200 case.
@MrakCZ7 ай бұрын
Jeez.. Where manufactures left the heads.. Always some bad decisions with all NAS cases. Just bigger bottom for PSU, then it comes proper cpu cooling and two more HDD space in drive base. And it will not be that bad with the size of the case. Matx, 10-12 hot-swap bay and I will be happy.

If it makes zero sense, why is the N2 from the same company called a 5-bay NAS when it has 5 3.5" drives and 1 2.5" drive? Pretty much all NAS cases refer to 3.5" drives when counting them with a couple exceptions (I've seen QNAP use X+Y numbering, for example).
