Best interview with balagi I’ve seen. He obviously has a very deep understanding of the economic and monetary mechanics currently but even more important he is able to explain the current state of the world from a first principles perspective. All the points he highlighted regarding World War Two and Russia, expanding war post soviet collapse, and the U.S’s global position as an unchecked super power for 50 of the last 70 years all plays in to not only where we are currently but more importantly where we are going and why. There was a part of the convo where he brings up the fact that “if you have been able to deficit spend without consequence for your entire lifetime odds are your bias is going to be to continue that behavior.” Even in the face of a paradigm shift where consequences to that behavior are now being levied the confidence in the action has now created a massive blind spot that creates a massive risk similar to the Wiley Coyote analogy. By the the time we realize it’s a problem we have already driven off the cliff.

It's difficult to imagine; North Americans are soft, many rely on the Gov't to take care of them. The US will continue using their "work around" for resulting Fiscal and Monetary needs that they cannot pay when GDP is lacking. Additionally, unemployment benefits, SS and Medicare requirements will fall short. Therefore, they will be forced to fire up the printing presses again, since the US no longer has a thriving manufacturing base, no oil exports due to Biden's oil shut down, etc, etc. Wait until the Commercial RE Industry fails! As long as Foreign Countries continue buying US Treasuries, the con game will continue. What will happen when Foreign Treasury Buyers of US Debt realize that the US will NEVER repurchase their DEBT? I am utterly disgusted at the "we need to do everything" to the detriment of actually getting things done. We need to prioritize and actually work hard. How we can incentivize that and reorient our society to actual work and mastery is not my field, as an RN, but even in my field there are so many ways that insurance and Medicare disincentivize doing actual work in favor of doing paperwork and the appearance of doing things instead of actually doing them.

Tom, I will confess that I've found many of your other interviews to be fairly superficial and lacking and helpful and actionable information. But this one was so thoughtful, specific, data supported, that I feel that it has really made a difference from me and will for others. Thank you! The sharing of this information accounts to me almost as a humanitarian effort. I think it part of the difference was the level of challenging and also digging into detail on specific assertions that were made.

Back in 2002, my wife and I took a trip from our home in New England to California to attend a wedding of a family member in San Francisco. As part of our trip, we went up into the hills overlooking the bay to watch the sunset. But rather than enjoying the sunset, we were completely awed instead by the site of Chinese container ships neatly lined up out to the furthest horizon and separated by very little distance (literally further than the human eye could see), all of which were ready to come into port and unload their consignments. It was at that very moment I knew the United States was in profound trouble and that China had won.

China hasn't won yet. But our politicians are working on guaranteeing it. They, and the corporations of America, have been working tirelessly to ensure China's win, all to the detriment of the American people. We have been routinely sold out and infiltrated aided by within.

We're reverting to the historical mean of multipolarity. The United States as the sole global superpower and empire was an anamoly caused by the sheer madness and destruction of WWII. An entire rules based system of international law and trade was created to help the world navigate through the power vacuum with the U.S. at the wheel. That time is coming to an end. Many empires have always existed at the same time over the course of history. It doesn't have to be a zero sum game, and technology & globalized trade showed us that. There can be many reserve currencies, and there can be many empires at the same time split along cultural values. Historically that's the way it's always been for all of civilized humanity. The Clash of Civilizations explains this well, and regionalism/regional onshoring explains how this might look in the future. There is no doubt that the world is going to change quickly in the next 2-5 years, and there will be some economic fallout from it. No way it involves going to war with our largest trading partner and launching nukes at each other. Regionalism is inflationary, technology is deflationary. Tons of opportunity in both camps, go get you some.

We're seeing numerous critical systems (each enough to merit extremely serious analysis) showing signs of breakdown: - Insect population collapse - Ocean acidification - Ocean and atmospheric current collapses - Coral reef bleaching - Biodiversity collapse - The climate emergency - Plastic and micro-plastic crisis - Topsoil erosion - Deforestation - Ever increasing light, air, water, and noise pollution - Groundwater depletion As much as humanity's future rests on stable/functioning political institutions, our civilization absolutely cannot continue without a stable/functioning planetary ecosystem. Outstanding interview Tom, your best yet..!! I live in Australia and although I own my home outright, all I see is raising and raising house prices. The Oz government is bringing over a million immigrants over the next two years which is creating a HUGE demand for housing. Builders here are collapsing and supply can't keep up with demand.! Interest rates are going up and up and a LOT of mortgages are coming off their fixed rates at 2% and now people I know are paying 6% and it's really hurting their budgets. I think we are setting ourselves up for a MASSIVE crash in house prices.!

Hard to see a crash when as you say the supply of houses aren't meeting demand. It will however cut deeply and depend on the behaviour of the banks. IF they start to enforce loans and evict then all hell might break loose. But there is a colossal amount of money sloshing around int he system first from cashed up boomers, and secondly from cashed up investors and thirdly from cashed up immigrants from places like China.

Tom, here is what you are missing: THE FED DOESN'T RAISE RATES. Right before you were talking about if the Fed knew or didn't know they were going to raise rates around 56:00, Balaji told you they are intentionally opaque. Part of that opaqueness is using the phrase, "raise rates" and "lower rates." The Fed doesn't have regulatory control over the rate they are telling you they are raising and lowering. If you listen to them speak carefully, they talk about a rate target, not an actual rate. The Fed does essentially one thing: They print money out of thin air and buy debt instruments with it. Usually those are government debt instruments but also mortgage backed securities since the 08 crisis. When the Fed wants to "lower interest rates." what that means is they are going to print more money and buy more debt instruments. The act of buying the debt instruments pushes the price up and therefore interest rates down. This process though is inflation. I don't mean it causes inflation. I mean it is inflation. When there is inflation, the market tends to push interest rates up so as to be compensated for inflation. The the very act of "lowering rates" causes a wave through the economy that ends up with higher rates. So, why did rates shoot up? In 2020 and 2021 the Federal government engaged in a massive wave of spending, while the economy was partly shut down. To do that, the Federal government borrowed massive amounts of money. This would have caused interest rates to massively spike right in 2020-2021. That didn't happen though because as the government was borrowing the money through debt instruments from commercial banks, The Fed was buying them from the commercial banks. That means the commercial banks still had money to lend to people besides the government. What we are seeing now is the wave of inflation reverberating through the economy and all prices are going up, including interest rates. The Fed, knowing their printing went too far, stopped and even unprinted a small amount of money. (Deflation). This is what caused the timing of the climbing rates but the Fed is pretty much powerless to hold them down. They could print more but the inflation is already symptomatic and that will just push rates up more. So, the Fed gets on TV and tells you they are going to raise the Fed Funds Rate target..... the interest rate they are unable to hold down anymore. The federal government raised rates by borrowing about every natural dollar there was available for lend. Also, we are facing demographic changes in this country that are pushing rates up in a more long term fashion. The average boomer is retiring and no longer putting money in savings / checking accounts / bonds. ...and the Fed didn't devalue the debt. The government did by borrowing so much.

Problem I have with these predictions is we been hearing about imminent global/US collapse for the last 15 to 20 years. I do think there be a big danger moment but we're probably decades away from that. If Japan today with around 250% government debt, decades of QE and a declining population can to this day still operate and a top 4 economy with decent economic growth and not turn into Venezuela or Zimbabwe. Then the US being the biggest economy in the world with much less debt to countries like Japan, holding the world global currency and okay demographic makeup compared to most developed countries and decent economic growth. I wouldn't worry too much about the US turning into a hell hole.

Hope your right , but everyone brings up the japan economy . What is the state of japans currency on the market ? And what do they pay for goods and services in their country . Japan is not the world reserve currency . Also many people in Japan live a conservative life . Do you think many individuals in their culture are in debt up to their eyeballs ?? Are they taxed into oblivion by their federal government and state government ?? I do believe you are comparing apples to oranges . I'm sure Americans can survive but it will be a cold bucket of ice water on many . Who knows how our current state of culture will react to that ?? Occupy wall street was one thing , we shall see what this will bring . Possibly more 10 hour lines for food waiting in your giant SUV that cost you 800 $$ per month to own . And no government forgoing your rent payments and inflating you unemployment checks. And paying one credit card with another passing fake money back and forth to avoid late fees . Yup we have been here before and will be again . Only this time maybe we won't have as many alies to loan us the money ( aka buy treasury bills ) . We will see . Hopefully you are right .

I have been doing my best to become financially educated and take what feels like appropriate action. 4% of my portfolio is in hard gold but when I listen to videos like this, I think I should just escape somewhere to the forest with my family and hope to survive. It’s been very difficult to know what to do. So far I am into 1:09 of this 4.5 hour overwhelmingly complex history video explaining the current financial system. So far I am being reminded of Robin Williams quoting Rumsfeld: “Every so often, Rumsfeld comes out and goes, "I don't know where. I don't know when. But something awful's going to happen. Thank you, that's all for today, no further questions." Excuse me, can you give me a clue? What is it, the Central "Intuitive" Agency now?” If anyone on your team reads these comments, please consider making an dumbed down and idiot proof easy to follow video summarizing the important takeaways from this and a 10 step process so I can do something other than just figure my kids and I will probably die sometime soon because a war will break out and / or the Chinese government will step in and have me killed for writing this.

Sorry nobody is going to do that for you, it's giving financial advice and you have to become self activated and motivated to try to understand it all. I suggest bookmarking this and coming back to it regularly and revising it. Chewing it over. What you ask for is dangerous because in effect you're giving your power over to someone else and asking them to think for you. It's not so easy , not anymore. Do your own research and constantly ask questions and revise. That's my approach. You cannot do a plug in and download into your brain the conclusions or a summary because they won't make much sense and you will lack a sense of proportion and emphasis. Good luck too, because we're I'm guessing we're mostly in a similar position. I'm just telling you how I think you can make the most of the opportunity of this video.

First Off, props to your content and Channel. So much valuable information. Well what we see again and what was always there to see in the last 150yrs is, that money is still and never will be the most important thing in earth, because if something is that much important there can't be that much fluctuation in the worth itself. That fact which is there to see, speaks against any logic aswell as against any rational point of viewing and therefore against the highest law there is, which is the law of nature where we all came from. So the lesson to learn from all of that, money itself isn't substantial so therefore it can't be that much important either worth. Money is an idea brought into life. Human's and there workforce and skill is worth. We can only strive as a whole If we lift each other up.

So what is the Solution to the troubles he stated You learned?
@jessejames4967 Жыл бұрын
@@johnj4094 Ultimately, the solution is a spiritual one, not a physical or financial one. Now there are short term remedies to ease the symptoms, however the long game solution is a reset. This system has been unsustainable and rotting for a long time, and change is inevitable, necessary, and painful. Are you asking what the solution is for the country? The world? Humanity?

Stocks are falling and bond yields are rising, but markets still don’t seem convinced the Federal Reserve will pursue plans to keep increasing interest rates until inflation is under control. I'm still at a crossroad deciding if to liquidate my $138k stock portfolio. What’s the best way to take advantage of this bear market?
@Gassnerholdings Жыл бұрын
Instead of liquidating your portfolio, it’s better to try to understand personal finances and investing, because these will most likely lead to greater financial independence. By being knowledgeable about money and investing, individuals can make informed decisions about how to save, spend, and invest their money. I know someone who made over $350k in this recession influenced market, but to the best of my knowledge, it was through a financial advisor.
@Patwils Жыл бұрын
Yeah, financial advisors could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I have been using an FA since 2019, and I return at least 21k ROI, and this does not include capital gain.

Is there any chance you could recommend who you work with? I've wanted to make this switch for a very long time now, but I've been very hesitant about. I'll appreciate any recommendation.

Thank you Tom for this interview. I was never interested in crypto, but I always try to understand how the economy works etc. I do listen to a lot of economic podcasts, but I never fully or deeply understant the concepts. I only get the " idea". Anyhow, this guy's logic its so perfect, I actually could follow it without a glitch 😊 He was so fluid, so logical in his explanations! So clear and even simple; just loved it! Thank you so much for bringing him on!

Not only does 'crypto' have NO intrinsic value (and doesn't, in fact, even exist) it's price (as distinct from 'value') is measured in DOLLARS, so why wouldn't you hang onto your dollars in the first place??🙃

Wonderful discussion, but is any of the impact theory team reviewing these videos after they're posted? The audio volume rapidly going up and down on the last few episodes has been horrendous.

Thank 4:30:39 you Tom. Your guests are brilliant and your questions couldn’t be better. I think, as it was discussed in this episode, that if the smartest Americans were challenged with solving the problems that Americans are facing today, we could do it, unfortunately it will have to be done outside of the existing political system. A broken system cannot fix itself.

Same story from him for multiple years now . He hasn't changed his thesis much . I know he's an analyst, but doesn't ever seem to take into account the zeitgeist of the countries or the collective . I'm sure like math he believes in his data points and numbers ,although recently he said we are possibly in uncharted waters .

Balaji Srinivasan's eye-opening video sheds light on the severity of the current financial crisis, offering a compelling case for why it surpasses the challenges faced in 2008. His in-depth analysis challenges conventional wisdom and encourages viewers to critically assess the implications of the ongoing crisis.
