This video is taken from a great few hours fishing I had on Sunday 21st April 2024. I was out for about 4 hrs from 5pm and fished the northern bays and then down the western shore. Spring is in full swing now and on this day the weather was really warm and sunny through the day, making way for a calm, mild evening with cloud cover and the fish deciding to have a go. It was a really enjoyable session, which I have split into 2 parts.
I fished different flies and changed things a few times to keep the fish coming and they may not be the biggest wild brown trout in the world, but definitely some of the prettiest & fight well above their size.
I hope you enjoy the video and feel free to leave me a comment if you want. Thank you as always to people that watch, like, comment and subscribe to the channel, it is very much appreciated. Special thanks again to Mike for sending me some sea trout flies and offering me plenty of advice and encouragement!
Tackle used | 9'6" 6/7 wt rod, cortland ghost tip fly line
Flies used in the video | Bibio snatcher, green tailed kate maclaren, black & peacock spider, viva zulu lure
Loch Fada is fly only, catch and release for wild brown trout, more information on day tickets please visit the website below:

Thanks as always Dave, glad you enjoyed it. I’m hoping to get back to filming another angle etc to add a bit of what I could loosely call ‘variety’ back to the videos, but for now just keeping it simple. Yes, Fada will be waiting for you if & when you get up to the west coast 👍

Nice to see the colours on the brown trout. Just got back from a weeks fishing on Skye. Myself an a friend fished every day and caught Browns and Rainbows. We specially enjoyed catching the wee wild brownies from the burns and small rivers. One of which was just a few metres from our holiday cottage. Portree AA was well worth joining and I may be back in September for a crack at the Salmon.

Glad you both had a good week. That’s great to hear when people get good fishing/enjoy their visit, it all helps our club. I’ve yet to get out on a burn or two with the 3 wt as fishing time has been limited to other things. It’s great fun though. The Storr Lochs are fishing well a you’ll know, with mayfly making their appearance, I was on a competition yesterday and got joint 3rd, it wasn’t dead easy - started well with a nice rainbow on dry fly then I struggled a bit until the last hr or so when I started getting a few on a wet mayfly. My boat partner won it two rainbows for over 6lb one was a belter. Everyone caught their brace to weigh in and it was a good day. If you are back in sept hope you get some fishable conditions on the rivers, if not there are still the lochs. All the best 👍

Some lovely brownies you had there Matt. Nothing quite beats the colours on a wild brownie does it especially if they have a bit of blue on their cheek also.

Thanks Toby, they certainly are bonnie fish. I passed the loch yesterday and there were plenty of fish rising to the mayfly as well as folk out fishing which is good to see. All the best 👍

I know, size aside, they are very similar. The loch seems to be fishing well with mayfly starting to show, hopefully if work allows, I’ll get back on there soon with more time. A lot of recent goes have only been very short trips. There are bigger fish in there but whatever their size, they are a pleasure to fish for. Thanks as always & hope your season continues to be a successful one👍

Thank you. Yes it was the first slightly longer session (about 3-4 hrs) I’d managed this season and the fish were fairly obliging as there was some midge coming off. I’ll get part 2 done soon where there were some bonus fish and a bit of heartbreak! All the best and glad, touch wood, you seem to be on the mend & you’ve been getting out 👍

@@highlandfishingdiary8818 I was being trained on the use of club boat and seemed wrong not to take a rod. Had a session on the Don but didn't get a brownie interested. Going back again soon.

Thank you Mike. I need to try to get another longer session on there sorted, probably afloat as the mayfly are starting to show. There’s a competition this sat that I’m hoping to fish on Leathan. The next part gets a bit more interesting fish-wise and unfortunately a bit of bad luck too! Shed is nearly done so hoping to get out in the sea too, all the best in the far north Mike 👍

@highlandfishingdiary8818 Good luck in the competition Mat. That Fluo Soldier Palmer on the top dropper might work for you if the fish are up! (Maybe not the sand eel though!)

@@mikef6114I’ve already tried it on Loch Fada and dropped a brownie off on it. It may well be my secret weapon on Saturday 👍
