Fun fact: The Chickcharney was actually kind of real. There used to be a giant, likely flightless owl that lived in the Bahamas in prehistoric times, and was still around long enough for the first humans who arrived to see it. It was probably around three feet tall and stood upright like a burrowing owl, and was possibly related to them or barn owls. So that's literally a creature their ancestors saw and made up stories about.

@@samuraidoggycraziest thing about dodos is they weren’t mainland based and didn’t die off prehistorically. I was so confused with a claymation called Pirates Band of Misfits. The captain has a dodo instead of a parrot and I’m like “wtf did they give him that.” Turns out, people ate the dodos and the dodos’ eggs got eaten by rats and cats. They’re related to pigeons and on Mauritius without predators were like “what, am I supposed to run from you?” They died in the 1600s I think.

I have heard from South Africans that the tokoloshe can be thwarted by raising your bed because it was likely inspired by people dying of CO2 poisoning in their sleep because of laying on the floor in closed areas, with too many people in the closed room, or with a smoky fire in the hut. If you raised your bed, you'd be raised above the CO2 and not "attacked" by the tokoloshe. This is just one version of it though.

2:41 Yeah, about that, there isn't really any kind of second amendment rights in Brazil anymore, I once did a dissertation about it, long story short(I'll try my best to make it short), the right to bear arms was abolished back in 2004 by President Luis Inacio "Lula" (who btw, later got convicted of a bunch of crimes, got released from prison on a technicality, but was still found guilty, but since this technicality only appeared after he was already 75, they couldn't arrest him anymore, shortly after leaving prison on a technicality that NO ONE ever mentioned, until exactly after he was 75 and exactly before the presidential run, he got out, ran for president a third time, and won, after being convicted on several instances of active and passive political corruption, the guy is too old to be out on trial and arrested after committing and being convicted of several crimes but apparently not too old to become *THE DAMN PRESIDENT* of an entire nation* ) although, civilians can still own a gun, after a long, arduous and very expensive process full of burocracy, which discourages most people from trying to own one, you are still not allowed to bring the gun outside of your home, I think the only civilians who can carry guns outside their homes are people who practice target shooting and still, the gun needs to be carried inside of a case and unloaded. Funnily enough, Brazil is still filled with illegal guns, which are sadly, for the most part, in the hands of drug cartels and crime syndicates, the criminals somehow manage to get their hands on anti-tank and anti-aircraft rifles, machine guns, hell, it wouldn't surprise me if they had grenades and/or other explosives too, meanwhile, the common man still has trouble getting their hands on a pistol for self-defense. And yet, the same politicians who vote in favor of gun control and defunding the police in Brazil are the same ones who walk around with armed guards because criminality is at an all time high. Ironic, huh?
