What an superb basket tutorial. It always seems the Brits are so precise with their teaching. Thanks so much for sharing.

To make planting in the sides of baskets easier just toll your plants in a wide strip of paper or newspaper then push through the sides, remove paper and this helps prevent damage to plants and roots!
@dannusmk15788 жыл бұрын
What is it that you recommend to do? I tried what she did. I Pulled the plants and destroyed the roots.

After you’ve watered the lobelia, the root ball is easily squished flatter that then can be pushed through. Then I fluff the roots out and put compost all around to give them a head start with branching out. Better root development.

For hanging baskets the general rule is to use one plant per inch of basket diameter - so 12 plants per 12 inch basket. You'll only need 5 plants per 12 inch hanging basket for bigger plants like Geraniums (Pelargoniums), Surfinia Petunias, culinary herbs and Fuchsias

Thanks for the great tutorial. i want to build a frame over my bathtub and have plants hanging down. do you think if i line the base of the hanging frame with coir and cut holes in the coir for my succulents, air plants and bromeliads, that will work?? or will the compost fall out too much?
@lindahandley52674 жыл бұрын
If I were a little plant, I'd want you to handle me! I actually cheated today. I went to Walmart to get some plants to make a 'thriller/filler/spiller, but they honestly had some of the most beautiful potted plants that I've seen in a long time, so went ahead and bought several. Home Depot usually has the 'thrillers' already made up too that are gorgeous. I don't have really good ground, (without a LOT of work amending it), and this arthritis doesn't like me digging, so my yard and around the house still looks really pretty. I love the idea of how you cut the holes in the coconut husk! Do you make the 'spherical hanging baskets' too?

This was fabulous! I have a question: Can I use old horse manure mixed into the soil when I'm planting? I sometimes worry about adding too much nitrogen to the soil when planting flowers as I understand I may end up with all greenery and no flowers. But I have lots and lots of horse manure available -- and if you can use the pelleted chicken manure, seems like it would be okay, Thanks in advance for your reply!

its so hard to find these flowers here in california. imagine 1plug is like $4-5. theyre not really selling 1.5 inch plugs in homedepot or lowes. sometimes they have 6 plugs for $7 but only limited. the trailing pansies, cascading petunia, trailing vinca anything trailing, they dont sell it cheap and not even available. so it's like when u make your own it will cost you over $30bucks. So im stuck with allysum, lobella, regular petunia, regular geraniums, regular impatiens. If you buy it online on ebay, they're not selling to california buyings bcoz of excess shipping cost. it's like wth??? :-/
