Put the empty hanging basket inside the planter and pack soil around it. Remove basket and plop plant into the exact sized hole and make transplanting sooo much easier. Ive learned lots over the years.

@@GardeningwithCreekside I always found it hard to pack dirt around the plants when in place. I make sure the plants (even the 4 inch size) are dampened first (so the soil doesn't fall away) and then gently removed from their nursery containers and plant the empty containers to the proper level. I tamp it down enough so when I gently remove them, the soil stays in place. Then, I pop the plants right into the spaces! So much less traumatic on tender plants! After planting a few, I use those empty containers and un-pot the next ones right before they go in.

When I plant any of my coconut liners I like to line them with a water mat. This material is similar to what you find in a baby diaper. When you do this the water does not run out the bottom but is absorbed into the liner and the roots grow deep to find that water. I also use granules that do the same thing. This works great in those hot climates and saves on watering more than once a day in the hottest months

You can also buy water polymers to incorporate into your soil. Suggest you hydrate first or use VERY sparingly. They plump up about 50×. They help hold water in pots & I use them in vases too. Edit: they go by many names, Water Grabber, Soil Moist etc.

I enjoyed your video. I also specialize in growing hanging baskets and bedding plants in containers. I’ve found in my experience and read that flowering plants such as Petunias, Begonias, Calibrachoas, Geraniums need to be in basket that is a minimum of 14” diameter in order for them to last the Season. Having a Larger Container always means You should not need to water as often. A 10” basket during the Summer may need to be watered twice a day. I recommend You consider moving up to a larger basket and not using a 10” diameter. It’s also a good idea to mention that many baskets benefit from a good shearing back when they start getting leggy. In Ontario we do this in early August. The basket looks a little bare for a week or 10 days but come back even Better and last into October

We have been trying for six years to plant flowers in the ground and they die every year the majority of them and so now we transplant into large pots. We used a message that you showed here in this video after seeing your video sometime back and I appreciate all your suggestions and it now works very well to have beautiful flowers. Our biggest fight now is the wind and extreme high heat and humidity in the summer in the Midwest!! Thank you so much for your videos♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🌸🌸

I live in Tennessee, so I have clay soil as you do in NC. I had always thought I needed to remove the clay from the hole and replace with garden soil before planting. I was encouraged to see that you didn’t do that, but put the petunias right there in the clay. If this works for me too, it’s a game changer. Thank you for this enlightening video. I’m off to get some Proven Winners plants and fertilizer to try in my garden.

Enjoy all your videos! Keep on doing you ! People amaze me ! In 2022 still criticizing others accents. Proud southerner myself. My accent is extremely deeper than hers. Here in the south Just like all over the world accents , tones, slangs, and languages vary within each region. The southern Appalachian language is a variation of the old English, Scottish, Irish dialect. If you have read Shakespeare you will read many of the words as we still pronounce them today in the south . Many of us also have Native American heritage and language as well . Hope y’all have a good ole time out there in them gardens. Get them youngins outside and in the dirt. Catch yall some lightin bugs, and get granny beads around y’all’s necks. Ain’t no shame in my heritage as i am sure yall feel the same about yours .

I had to move away from coco liners. Darn birds in the month of May were pulling them apart to build their nests. I have hanging window boxes attached to my PVC privacy fence in the backyard. I used the coco liners for many years without problems, but a wise bird came along a couple a years ago and started pulling the liners apart. Apparently, birds learn from each other and the next thing I know there's a dozen birds pulling my coco liners apart. Over the winter I found a company online that builds PVC window boxes. Worked out perfectly! Ok guys let's see you pull those apart! 😄

You did a great job! But I have to disagree with one thing. The superbells you can put them in your landscape. Maybe it depends on where you live not sure. But speaking from personal experience and I live in SE Ga and like NC we have had several inches of rain over the last couple of months and the wind. Mine have tripled in size. By the way we don’t have a clay soil. So mine have done great!
@GardeningwithCreekside
@GardeningwithCreekside 4 жыл бұрын
Lisa Waldron thanks! Soil type makes a massive difference in how plants grow and the care that they require so our clay soil wouldn’t be conducive to Superbells. Even PW recommends not planting them in the ground so it sounds like you’re the exception to the rule. That’s the joy (and sometimes frustrating part) of gardening - finding what works and doesn’t work in your garden. Happy gardening!
@ProvenWinnersYouTube
@ProvenWinnersYouTube 4 жыл бұрын
Lisa, you are one of the lucky ones! Typically Calibrachoa do not like what we call 'wet feet'. their roots sitting in water. And since one cannot control rainfall, this situation is always possible. We do our best to guide gardeners along the best path to success!

Okay... late to the party here, but thrilled I have finally arrived. I live in zone 3 in Alberta, Canada where our season is MUCH shorter. ☹ Your tips will still work though!!! 😃 Questions tho.... First, I avoid Petunias because of the constant deadheading. Will what you suggest help reduce the deadheading? It's a fulltime job... Second, if you sprinkle the fertilizer in the ground, do I still need to water with fertizer in the water twice a week?
@ProvenWinnersYouTube
@ProvenWinnersYouTube Жыл бұрын
Welcome! The best news about our Supertunias is that they are self-cleaning, meaning the spent bloom drops without any help from you! And if you use time release plant food when planting, you can wait 6-8 weeks and then start to water with a water soluble plant food mixed in.Hope this helps!

Our Supertunias are self-cleaning, no need to deadhead. And we only recommend pruning the plant when it starts to look leggy due to inconsistent watering or a lack of plant food. Thanks for watching!

My Petunia blossoms always become damaged by the rain. Do you have any tips or any special plants that you use to prevent this?

Natalia Lopes we have found in our experience that the Superbells by PW do not get as damaged and bounce back faster than petunias after a big rain. I suppose it’s because they have smaller blooms so not as much surface area to be damaged.

The large blue container you planted the hanging basket in is beautiful. Does it have drainage holes in it?

Yes! Never use a container without drainage holes if it will be in a spot that can get rain, it is a sure way to drown your plants!

Hello! I have the supertunia bubblegum mixed with a supertunia lilac/white bloom that I bought at the nursery. It isnt in a hanging basket. The lilac/white is full of blooms while the bubblegum is full of lush green leaves with 3-4 blooms only🫣. I fed it miracle grow 4 days ago. I wonder if I should prune them back? What am I missing?

I live in Orlando Florida and cannot find the slow release fertilizer or the water soluble fertilizer anywhere. I have driven to every garden center in my area for them.

Gorgeous flowers. I'm new to gardening. Do those flowers regrow for the next year?
@ProvenWinnersYouTube
@ProvenWinnersYouTube 4 жыл бұрын
Typically no, these are annuals so they would only stay alive in the warmest of areas. Look at the hardiness zones number for each plant and that will help you too.

I have a question about the hanging basket under the pergolar which is shaded. How much sunlight does it need?
