I don't know where to start - I stumbled onto this channel as a result of a reddit post in r/jazz - and I couldn't be more impressed. I've been a Miles fan for thirty years, read his autobiography while traveling in Europe (four years after it was published) and I've spent years following threads of the jazz weave - each lending greater understanding and appreciation for the genre and the insane talent of these individuals. You have done SUCH a good job of this. Your presentation is engaging, considered, entertaining, tasteful, and filled with nuggets of pure gold - historical highlights are carefully selected - the temporal atmosphere anchoring these performances - everything is considered. I'm so grateful. I can't say enough about this. What a lovely gift. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

This is definitively a great guide on how to get wayy deeper into Miles Davis, his music, era, influences, contemporaries, etc. As your channel name implies, you really cut deep on this one.

I've slowly been following this (part of the) guide over the last few months and listened to all of Miles' stuff you've mentioned so far. I've always loved Kind of Blue, but I didn't know a lot about Miles Davis and where to even begin discovering more about his life and music (although I've always been intrigued). Your guide is helping me A LOT with that. Thanks so much! I really feel richer now in the context of musical knowledge. It's as if I've found and opened a treasure and you've been the captain that sailed my boat to this jazzy treasure island. Can't wait for part 2. Cheers!

Being a trumpet player I got to do Miles rendition of four in high school. I got fascinated by him more in my sophmore year in college when I took a jazz history class a few years ago. This year I saw the documentary Birth of the Cool and fell in love all over again. My dad passed away in October and his music has helped me get through this rough time in my life. Miles Davis was the rockstar if jazz and was the coolest guy in jazz. He pioneered from the 40s to the 90s and theres always something good to hear from each decade.

This is absolutely amazing, the level of research and dedication this must have involved, with the fact that it had to be split into two parts due to the breadth of history it has and discourse it generates. Absolutely commendable, reminds me of Mark Lewisohn's Beatles biography book series, where volume 1 (covering only the beginnings and first few years of their career) was published in 2013 and was 1700 pages unabridged, and the next volume isn't anticipated until 2023 now at the earliest. Absolute dedication to detail in this video, amazing. Proud to have discovered this channel, subscribed
