A Guided Tour of Igor Stravinsky's Symphony in Three Movements (1945)

This work is often identified as Stravinsky's "War Symphony". It is played here by the Berlin Philharmonic, under the direction of Pierre Boulez.

What a great symphony that is! This work is much more traditional comparing his early works (and my conception of him)! Love it so much! Definitely looking forward to your Stravinsky and Schoenberg Projects! I've neglected Stravinsky as well, except his Rite and Psalms. I've once spent a semester taking a course on the Rite, and I notice the reference you provide as well! Really love Stravinsky's juxtaposition skills, just like Godard's jump cut. That prevents sometimes meaningless transition in order to keep the music smooth and flowing.

Very cool piece. I've neglected Stravinsky's symphonies up to now, besides the Psalms, so I'm looking forward to the rest of these, and whatever the Schoenberg project you mentioned is.

This symphony and the Symphony of Psalms are far and away my favorite Stravinsky symphonies. The first one - his Opus 1 - really isn't very interesting except insofar as it shows us where the composer was at age 23 and how great the ensuing aesthetic journey was. It's kind of a thrill, to see that kind of trajectory in a major artist. The same is certainly true of Schoenberg, and no less so of Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock.
