Morten's voice just evokes something no other singer does. Scoundrel Days is one of my favourite songs ever, the power in his voice is 👌

It's so fun watching someone react to A-ha (especially something else besides Take On Me)! I was 11 was A-ha came on the scene and I take for granted how awesome their songs are. So, I'm just so happy you're are reacting to their songs. And I"m so glad you love them! I've Been Losing You is in my top 5 A-ha songs!
@ohmnesia_2 жыл бұрын
I love watching reaction vids and you do a great job! Btw, never stop reading out the lyrics. It's half the song! So glad you still find beauty and relate to a song from back then. I read somewhere that "we didn't give A-ha all we should have, back in the '80s" and it's true. On the other hand...we thought we'd always have music like that being made. We were wrong....

"It reads like a novel" - In Norwegian traditional music, folk singing is an important genre. Often, the songs were about tragedies and the dark sides of life. A-ha carries the legacy further into modern times with their melancholic lyrics bringing a story.
@martah13 жыл бұрын
Depeche Mode and A-ha are two bands that have accompanied me all my life. Each of their songs is a potential hit. Their music and lyrics do not lose their relevance and do not get old. On the other hand, the vocalists ..... with time their voices were filled with emotions, although they always sounded lovely. Besides do you know that A-ha recorded a song for the Janes Bond movie?

4:05 onward As an a-ha fan, a running joke with a friend of mine is that the songwriter (guitarist Pål Waaktaar-Savoy) is secretly a murderer and writes about his crimes in his songs lol Because when you think about it, there are a surprisingly large amount of a-ha songs that could be interpreted as being about murder - Scoundrel Days - I've Been Losing You (of course) - The Soft Rains of April (sounds like he was jailed) - The Blood That Moves The Body - Sycamore Leaves And so on!

Most of the songs on the second album were written by Pal Waaktaar-Savoy, who had some issues with keeping his own marriages afloat at the time, and he used the circumstances to write songs for the second album, Scoundrel Days. Another big banger.

I just realized now from your comments about their lyrics why I was so drawn to them in the late 80's, I was friggin goth back then, but me and my sister really cought on to A-ha because of the minor instead of major in their music, and in their lyrics definitely 🤗🖤😉

Thats cool that you and your sister caught onto them for reasons like the lyrical content. I never had that chance here, because well, all the exposure they had where I'm at was Take On Me. Such a shame!

Hi Mike, This is such a cool track. "putting the gun down on the beside table" Thats definitely a metaphor because the killing of someone is not confirmed by any other lyric. These words more support the argument thats takin place. "it wasn't the rain that washed away" no thats because it was tears. Ever had a fight with your girlfriend or wife and hurt them? made them cry? Then realising what you've done. Thats what i believe they reference here. Also they go to say oh come on, please now talk to me. He wants help to put things right because he been losing her.
@emmyfischer3073 жыл бұрын
Sycamore Leaves is fantastic too-you’d definitely like the live NRK version better as it’s more rocky and bluesy. :) edit: also yes, he shot his lover/girlfriend/wife/whatever. A-ha has a lot of darker lyrics, it’s definitely not all Take On Me! I like you going over the lyrics-almost no one does and they’re so important! But that could just be the English teacher in me lol. I’ve had my students analyze a couple of their music videos as a symbolism activity:)

@strawberryeyes34962 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the way I always understood this song was the narrator telling the of the story has just shot their lover, 'it wasn't rain that washed away' = the blood washing away. 'Washed out colour of your eyes' = their dead gaze. The way Morten sings it, his choice of voice modulation, giving the vocals slightly unbalanced, unhinged feel in some places, and normaland calm in others, like he'sa split personality.
@mangerinegirl2 жыл бұрын
Just discovered you but it doesn’t bother me at all that you go back to the lyrics! Especially with a band like a-ha, the lyrics really are like a novel. They paint such pictures in my mind. I’m so happy you love these songs! “It ended too soon!”-me at the end of every a-ha song. Also the bass in this one is incredible!

I found this profile today and I am really enjoying your reactions :) Your comments on the lyrics are not annoying at all. The main writer in the band Pål (Paul now) had been an avid classic reader. Dostoyevski, Kafka etc. As for the song itself. Man, it is awesome live. I am so looking forward to hear them live next year. Ohh, on this year Tribeca film festival will be shown documentary on a-ha. Here is the trailer to it if you are interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/annToIGLjr2frac
