If you like the 80's, I think you would love 10,000 maniacs/Natalie Merchant! Another that I think you'd really enjoy from the early 90's is 'Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star...

It removes the pop part and increased the soul of the song by 100%. Incredible performance. I've heard this live unplugged before in Norway. Incredible musicians.

Omg this version! 💔 I absolutely loved the original one back in the day, but this version 40 years later hits so much differently, so emotionally, after living a good chunk of your life. There is wonderful musicianship by all & the vocals are just gorgeous. Thanks Inna for your beautiful, heartfelt reaction ❤

Hi, thanks for reacting to the mtv unplugged version of Take on me. I’ve been an A-HA fan for 40 years now. They have produced the soundtrack to my life since i was 16 years old. i’m 54 now. A-HA are criminally unappreciated and underrated they are an amazing band with a huge back catalogue of music that’s always evolving and changing. I love this version of take on me better than the 1985 version that’s faster. The unplugged version just brings tears to the surface of your eyes and it sounds like an entirely different song plus the band still have it after all these years. Take care 😘🏴 ❤️🇳🇴❤️A-HA FOREVER❤️🇳🇴❤️

Its always been a great song but I never thought of it as beautiful till now.

It turns it into a middle aged person's song. Not as joyful, but silently hopeful, as life has trodden on your love so many times. I felt the song as a teen once - and now it is mine again. And his voice is still so beautiful!

Fun fact: A-Ha released 3 versions of this song back in the 1980's. The 3rd version is the one that became the biggest hit and powered by the video. A US producer heard them and brought them to the states and the Hunting High and Low album was produced.

I’m impressed by his vocals, a lot of guys from the 80’s can’t reach those high notes anymore, especially while singing softly.
@ahkkariq74063 ай бұрын
He doesn't go as high here. However, that doesn't mean he can't pull it off, because he does when he sings the original version in concert. They've changed the chorus a bit, and I think it suits the concept better.

yeah it rare beside him i only really remember the Alfee being able to pull off their note really well from back in the 70-80s

A lot of A-HA songs are melancholic with a catchy melody. It was this combination that defined A-HA especially in the 80's.

The lyric "I'll be gone in a day or two" used to express the restlessness and adventure of youth. But at my age, it DEFINITELY takes on a more somber tone as a statement of mortality.
@ahkkariq74064 ай бұрын
It's basically sad that this song has overshadowed all other music from a-ha for so many other than us who were young Europeans in the 80s. The band has many hits in Europe, if I'm not mistaken they have 8 in the top 10 in the UK alone. They are wonderful musicians, creative and skilled in their profession. Most fans would even say that "Take on me" is not their best song, because there are so many other songs that are at least as good, if not better. The band has released 11 studio albums. The latest came in October 2022. If you don't know other songs than Take on me, I recommend you check them out. Start with the sequel, "The sun always shines on TV". It's epic!

It's really weird to watch these middle aged ladies in the crowd, mouthing the lyrics and crying, then realizing that they are around my age, and we would have been kids at the same time experiencing the song when if first came out. That's why this version of the song kind of strikes the chord it does for me. There's the nostalgia factor, but then the sad feel of this slow version that makes you realize the time that's passd since the original that was so upbeat and energetic when you were a youth and it came out.
@ahkkariq74064 ай бұрын
The middle aged ladies have probably been fans since they first experienced the song as young girls. As you can see, there are not many people in the audience, and the tickets for the concert (which were part of a package with transport and food) were so expensive that only those with a special interest would be willing to pay. These ladies could probably feel it with every fiber of their being. Morten was also a real heartthrob in his younger days, and was for a long time. It was as if age had not taken its toll on him. When this concert was arranged he was 58 years old. It can also be mentioned that a-ha has released many albums over the years, and their music is from another world, that's how good it is.

Your first try to spell a-ha was absolutely right.

A-ha is pronounced "ah ha", not "ay ha". So you were right with your first guess. :) Morten Harket, the lead singer, holds the European record for the longest note held in a top pop song. Check out the live version of that song, it's called "Summer Moved On" but look for the live concert at Oslo Spektrum from December 2010.
