Oreo was just warning that it was a scarred platter, because the kitty always knows! Yes, the platter when you get heavy head collision like that 'burns' the read head and the drive platter, and you can SMELL that burn effect when you open them up, it smells like a mixture of burning expoxy and iron. You said sniff, the word you were looking for is 'smell' (language translation for common usages) - I 'sniff' the flowers to 'smell' their scent. I have 6 or 8 drives here that I do need to get fixed, but sending them is currently outside my financial range, sorry :(

Could you maybe talk about the fact that apple removed developer mode from iPhones? It’s no longer accessible without using a Mac with Xcode, I’m pretty sure they did that so that we Europeans can’t download alternative app stores without jumping through multiple hoops thanks

interesting what you say about the length of wires and data transfer. Someone told me once that high frequency transfer of data worked best by avoiding 90degree bends, going across corners. Changing direction tends to result in loss of data

The PureAir VLF-48 is a vent hood? Like Exhaust vent? So it forces air from the surrounding dirty room into it and out the filters? Is there some kind of chemical or fume that you are venting for safety when opening drives? Or is it enclosed space that filters the incoming air?

WD drives have silver plated PCB's that oxidize over time and then they click, flowing solder on the head interface pads fixes them (ofc, dont short any pads or nuke surrounding components off the board with a giant iron), saved me in a pinch and all the drives that were fixed/preemptively fixed in this way have been rock solid

Louis, could you please tell me some information about iMac upgrade...? I got an iMac 27" 2017 5K Retina display. I wanted to upgrade the Microprocessor to its maximum support. I already got an Intel Core i7 7700K 4.80GHz but I wanted to upgrade to a newer processor for Sonoma support... what processor should I upgrade.? although I already tried Core i7-9700K, but it didn't work..
