I have to say that oil on that gear box has blown around from another leak. The fan can move a lot of oil giving a false appearance of a leak. Someone made a comment about the freeze plugs? Good chance there rotted. Pretty sure gm used steel plugs. Green coolant left in an engine for years will do some serious damage. They might look good. Good chance you might push a screw driver right through them. Car info central is open today. 👍 I hear that GMC is for sale?

Again the GMC is not for sale but thanks for asking lol! We went ahead and checked the Freeze plugs and they appear to be solid. I also took your advise and we are holding off on the PS gearbox until further notice. The reason I think the freeze plugs are fine, because all the coolant leaked out from the radiator.

Hey thanks for your continued support and information. I’m glad you said something about the bearings I’ve seen you work on a few of these cars. I don’t have much experience and for you to say that the bearing looks fine gives me some peace of mind.

I took a look at the Freeze plugs they seem to be fine do you still recommend that we change them?

@@sharmasteeltv8494 mine started leaking from the one behind the starter and the one on the opposite side in the rear I would change the ones that are hard to access while you have everything taken apart

Great video! LOVE the detail from your UHD camera! I'd say once you reassemble the motor, I'd clean off that steering gearbox; you've definitely got a lot of build-up from seepage on there. And it looks like it's been running down the assembly for quite some time. If that gunk was from another source, then it would be sprayed all around the area, and that doesn't seem to be the case. Also, the crankshaft looks to be in good shape, but there's a lot of scoring on that bearing. is that from dirty oil? Other than oil changes, is there any other simple improvement that can be done to better filter the oil? Can you flush the oil system to make sure fine metal particles don't cause any more scoring?
@sharmasteeltv84943 жыл бұрын
Thanks I will do just that, clean off the PS Geerbox and see if it’s from something else and make the repair only if needed. And about the bearing you could be onto something. Not 100% sure if that could be from normal wear and tear or some kind of negligence on maintenance. I do know that back trust bearing takes the most abuse.

Just refurbish the steering box you got. Ship it out if you have to
