Backstory overview: Mafia's Grand Voyage. The Mafia were once low-life workers working hard at a factory, but they did not enjoy their jobs. Tired of their menial labor, the man who would become their boss rallies up the workers, and together, they set sail to a distant island of which, they would build their dream utopia: Mafia Town. Conductor and Grooves' Big Dreams. When both were little, they watched their first ever movie awards on television, and from this, they dreamed of becoming great movie directors in hopes of winning the awards for themselves. Years later, the Conductor and Grooves move into the same building that would become Dead Bird Studio, beginning their long rivalry to best each other for the movie awards. The Tale of Queen Vanessa. Once upon a time, there was a princess and a prince who're in love. But one day, while taking a stroll around town, Vanessa finds the prince holding hands with another girl, and she did not take it lightly. Heartbroken, Vanessa assumed that the prince broke up with her, and stormed out of the town crying, unaware that the prince was actually buying flowers for Vanessa from the girl. When he arrives back, he tries to give the flowers to her and explain the situation, but Vanessa was too heartbroken to listen, and her anger and jealousy transformed her into a terrifying shadow monster. The prince was then locked up in the basement, and overcome with grief, he would eventually transform into the Snatcher. The Twilight Ascent. A goat was on an adventure to find the mysterious twilight realm on top of the peaks. When he finally reaches his destination, he would meditate within the realm, and become one with the stars.

Imagine being the Prince. (Hella late, but who cares) You were with a tutor for a while. You finally go back to the kingdom and you decide to buy flowers for Vanessa. You pay the botanist, and you hear crying and someone’s rapid footsteps slowly fading away. You turn your head, but only see a blur of someone running into the alley (or what I can assume is an alley). You go back into the castle, where your princess is weeping terribly. Had you done something wrong? What was wrong? You attempt to ask, but guards grab you. You are now desperate to know what is wrong, yelling her name, but she can’t hear you anymore. The guards made sure you couldn’t get out of the dungeon, locking you up in tight chains. You rotted there, still not knowing your crime. Were the flowers bad? Did I say something wrong? Did I DO something wrong? Now I want us to try to describe how this would feel. (Thanks for reading this far btw!) Confusion would overwhelm you, mixed with anger, and sadness. Eventually you would be angry that you were punished for no crime. That rage would fill you up and you would have no idea how to take it out on Vanessa.. or just anyone. You wanted them to feel the same pain you did... but how? (CLIFFHANGER AAAAA)

Ok so to put it into perspective (since people's explaining comments for some reason are cut out in the middle) what these storybooks show us: Mafia's Grand Voyage: The mafia works either as janitor's or fish/seafood cooks in a factory. (kinda reminds me of "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs", especially the island at the time where the sardines were their primary income) After being tired of their jobs, they decide to leave and search for a new home - however, they leave their women alone. After countless days of relaxing and searching, they finally found the island we know as Mafia Town today. (which is inspired by Santorini, a very well-known island in the Aegean sea owned by Greece) Conductor's (and) DJ Grooves Big dreams: It starts off with showing their homes when they were children. They were watching the Annual Bird Movie Awards on TV and saw a crow holding the trophy. (it could have been the very first Annual Bird Movie award; probably this crow became their idol) After getting the equipment and funding and even a key to the, at the time, empty Dead Bird Studios, the 2 discovered that they both had access to the studio and fought over the right of property. They settled on cutting it in half and produced their own movies inside their parts of the studio as well as having a growing rivalry between them. As we know thanks to the Finale boss fight, where Hat Kid and the winner of the ABMA have a Lil' heart-to-heart, the Conductor won every single time but once, Award 42, which DJ Grooves got. And so to this day they have been recording train-related Western on the one side and Party and Parade movies on the other. The Tale of Queen Vanessa (by far the most changing and interesting story): We get to know, that the Prince and Princess Vanessa were a happy couple, living in the then "normal" Subcon Forest. (which still looked like it could resemble the Black Forest in Germany just to give an example) In between the first and second page, the trip of the Prince for his studies happened, as we know this from her diary entries when we enter her bedroom in the (spooky) Manor, which was the home of both the Prince and her. He got the time with his female tutor, whilst Vanessa only got letters and became jealous. After her mother, the Queen had died, she was crowned Queen Vanessa. She was sad about it though, as her lovely prince wasn't gonna be crowned King for another while. Later the prince comes back finally. Vanessa went for a little walk inside the Subcon Village, meeting the Minions and Dweller's, who were normal wood creatures and humans at the time. She sees the prince holding hands with another woman and runs away, heart-broken and full of tears. In reality tho, the prince gave the woman, a florist, money to buy a bunch of flowers for Vanessa. Back at the Manor, the prince wants to clear things up for Vanessa, but she wasn't listening to him, as she became he possessed shadowy self we know her today. The prince was taken away by guards into the Basement, where he was chained. He was possessed himself and became The Snatcher. His shadow figure, who, well, now makes the calls inside the forest, saw everything grow dark too, he became insane. And so to this day, Snatcher is collecting souls and continues to be a jerk, while Vanessa continues to wander around her Manor and freeze anyone she captures. The Twilight Ascent: This is by far the hardest to understand the story. It shows an old goat wandering through the desert and making his way to a hill, seeing the place, that would become Alpine Skyline. He made his ascent to the peak, where the Twilight Bell hangs today,. I have the theory that he meditated and ascended into a higher form, forming the constellations of stars. Somehow other goats made their way or were created by those constellations. The Twilight Bell formed and every time you ring it, you go into this Old Goat's new home in another dimension. You can even see the Ghost Goats over there, they might be the remains of dead goats, now wandering around in the Twilight dimension. I found it exciting to read about the backstories and theorizing about some of the possible outcomes. Lemme know if you liked it or if you have anything to add or correct.

All comments sympathizing with the princess at all, or saying “all this just because she misinterpreted the prince and the flower girl” are just wrong. All the notes in the mansion show that well before she saw him “holding hands” with the flower girl she had an unhealthy obsession for him and was abusively possessive in their relationship. She literally banned bacon just because the prince enjoyed it, that’s abusive af. And when he said he was coming back for a weekend to visit, she vowed to make him stay by any means necessary. Clearly this was going to happen one way or another, she just needed any excuse. The prince is the real victim (obviously).

AustenArts in Queen Vanessa’s diary she writes about how he is being taught law stuff by a tutor. I think when he got locked up all those years he had huge desire to do law stuff and had gone insane. When he was finally let out he was completely insane, and all that law stuff he wanted to do that had built up mixed with the insanity caused him do become the crazy contractor that always talks about legal obligations.

I have a story, it's called *"Never trust the one that bleeds"* Once a young man, he wanted to find the secrets of the universe; a passion he shared ever since childhood. He started to lose hope when he was 30 years old, starting the think there are no secrets of the universe; one day however made him forget those thoughts as he found a pearl that was crimson red, in his words he said that "It looked like it could bleed any second.". This orb however told the many secrets of the universe and he wanted to tell the tail to all his friends, family and loved ones. But he noticed how they all scream in terror and say "DON'T LOOK, OR IT TAKES YOU!!" The more and more he tried, the more and more people he made go insane, until he too lost his sanity to the orb. People say when looking at this man's glare whoever have nightmares of going down a hallway that looked like the inside of a throat. There hands and eyes that bleed look at you and say distorted and reversed yelling like "Don't look, or *it* takes you..." The man found out about this and realized that his victims disappear down a bloody hallway, never ending suffering and never ending guilt. He isolated himself from the world and swore a promise: Those that go into his hiding place shall be killed, before they go down that bloody hallway. Because he didn't want people to suffer pain and to live in fear for eternity all because of him. And he said to himself before he left "Finding and learning the secrets of the universe was not worth this... That people had to suffer for the rest of their afterlife, *all because of me...."* This story was inspired by a mod called *The Snatcher's Scavenger Hunt* And one of the jumscares was going down a hallway that looked like the inside of a throat and there, hands reach out screaming in pain. At the end lies 2 red eyes and A Hat Kid wooden replica with a mask with just its mouth before *it takes you* back to Hat Kid's room. I'd draw this myself, but I am still practicing, but if any animators out there that want to do this you totally can, but please just give me credit. Thank you for listening my story with me!

Mustache girl backstory: Mustache girl was once a happy little girl, strolling along the roads and smiling and waving to people. Eventually, the Mafia arrived on their island, so Mustache girl went over to them and greeted them kindly. But then, the Mafia rudely shoved her out of the way and began ruining the place and drawing graffiti on the walls. Mustache girl tried to make them stop, but they just laughed at all her attempts. Soon the place had became mafia town. Upset, she eventually went into hiding. In a hat in time seal the deal (the game's dlc) There's a storybook for Mustache girl. I suppose she eventually changed over time, and wanted revenge on the mafia, which most likely explains her hatred for them.

4) is the final level, Alpine Skyline. I havent beat the level yet, and i don't really like the level itself because it doesnt have much to do. But the goat thing is one of the inhabitants of the villages, and the settlers there don't know how the goats got there. Interesting backstory to the level, and otherwise its ok, but the fact that it doesnt really give you any sort of idea as to what you need to be doing, other than the time piece symbol, was a bit weird to me.

The world was comparatively boring in relation to the others, seeing as the stuff you had to do got repetitive pretty fast. The finale was interesting though.

Mafia: I don't really know who to go with here. The mafia just wanted a place that they dont have to work and moustache girl just wants her home back. Conductor and Grooves: *sho cute, I can't pick.* Vanessa: She really overreacted. No. 1. There are a million reasons that snatcher would be around another woman, especially a flower shop. Secondly, there is no reason to rip out everything in your room because you saw your Boyfriend/Fiancé/Husband around someone else. Also, Snatcher really had a reason for Vanessa, but because she was so stubborn, she didnt give him a chance to explain. She didn't even look at him! She sent him into the dungeon to rot because of a crime that could have been proven innocent with one look at Snatcher and a couple of words. Snatcher loved her, he doesn't even let you attack her, but he doesn't know what went wrong. He thinks that he has done something terrible and does not know how he went wrong, and has lost the love of his life because of it. He can only take out the hatred on everyone else because he does not want to hurt Vanessa. (N/A)
