Dear Maddie, I know this video is a few months old now but it came up on my feed today at just the right time! I've been going through a really bad period of anxiety recently, and watching lots of KZbin homemaking videos has got me thinking 'if only I lived in a cute cottage in the country I wouldn't be feeling anxious ' so this was the perfect reminder that anxiety can affect anyone, anywhere! It just made me feel a lot better to hear you say this, and be so honest with us, made me feel less alone, and that I'll get through this, and that changing my location isn't the quick fix my brain tells me it is 😆🩷 thanks so much, hope you're doing well right now 🩷

I think one of the many charms of a “quiet” vlog like this is that the beauty of everyday small things comes through so clearly. The crackling crust of homemade read, the sparkle of the sun, the peace of a cozy day at home. I actually appreciate the pace of your renovations- the reality for most of us is that we have to prioritize, sequence and save for things, and it is refreshing to see someone in the online space doing the same. Thank you for sharing about your mental health struggles. The ebb and flow of mental health runs right against the linear achievements oriented structure that we try to force everything into. Bless you for your transparency and gracious spirit.

I have been absolutely loving your vlogs- they actually help so much with my anxiety and calm me down- it’s like I’m hanging out with a lovely friend, and I appreciate having the time with you so much. I watch or listen in the morning or when I’m doing chores, and it’s really the most relaxing way to start the day- and your abundance mindset around eating and working out is such a healthy influence on me as well :) thank you for doing what you do. Thank you for being a real person. Wish I could give you a hug when you’re feeling down, because that is what your vlogs feel like to me ❤

I really appreciate you sharing about your mental health. The truth is that even when life is beautiful and we see our blessings, we can still experience teetering moods and anxiety. It’s important to be able to say out loud what you’re feeling. It’s cathartic. I so love your channel. It’s a lovely pleasure for me. Thank you for everything you do.

I’ve been following you for many years. When I feel anxious and down I tune into your channel and I find it very real, distracting and soothing. Just like having a good friend in my living room. People can switch off if they don’t like your content. It’s a tricky one because once you open your doors to social media negativity is part and parcel and sadly won’t ever change. Your reaction to it is the key to your success and clearly you are very successful!!! Take the highs with the lows hard as they are. Depression and anxiety is something I’m living with. We all have our life stuff to deal with and things affect each one of us in different ways. Key board warriors are so out of touch with kindness and understanding. Take care and keep being you ❤

Maddy as someone who has suffered from extreme anxiety (battling it for most of my life including phobias) the way I’ve healed the anxiety is too identify the traumas that caused it. I also know that only those who have personally suffered anxiety can understand. There is no simple ‘one thing’ or fix that can get rid of anxiety. In regards to diet one thing that helped me was to eat a mostly whole food plant based diet. Other things were being in nature, reading and doing things I love. Sending hugs, love and healing ❤I enjoy your recipes and vlogs and I’m sure many other people do too 😊my bet is you get bucket loads of great comments 😊

I’ve been a silent follower for quite some time but I have to say I love these vlogs! It poured all day and I stayed in and did chores and I have your videos going and it felt like I was just listening to a friend. Also, I do appreciate how you bring up mental health - a lot of us, myself included, can sometimes just make assumptions that KZbinrs live idyllic lives but you’re just like the rest of us! Hope you’re doing okay. I also agree about the point with shopping at natural/local stores - I’ve started shopping at the farm market and bakery instead of a department store and I find it a much better deal for higher quality goods. Also, you end up shopping with intention instead of throwing a sneaky bag of chocolates into your cart (which is just as fine as well!)

Don't feel pressured to keep up with all these new platforms and the madness that is the internet... I feel like it's so important for there to be a variety of content for different types of people with different sensibilities. Your theme of the year was 'slow'... I think the internet is just over saturated with people trying to reinvent the wheel and churn out fast trendy content that often (to me) feels toxic and fake. You are honestly a breath of fresh air, real, honest SLOW content that makes me (and LOADS of other people) feel good. Don't doubt your intuition, we are 100% here for it and what you have to offer. It really means a lot for you to be honest and 'real' online when so many others are not. Sending love and gratitude!💖

I seriously appreciate your dedication to keeping it real so much. We all talk about the highlight real that is social media, but most people complaining about it still play the game. People online who are willing to let the pieces we hide of ourselves be seen are the people who will change it. Anyone who trolls you for it is lying to themselves about their own life and about the fact that we all have different battles. I have always struggled with my mental health, and I know from personal experience how wildly important it is to normalize discussing it.

I really appreciate you being honest about your mental health. I'm someone that cooks from scratch, enjoys baking, being a stay at home mom to my daughter, and yet I struggle with depression, I have all my life. I've been on medication for it but trying to get off to try to find balance again without meds. I had been vegan for 5 years and it didn't change my mental health either direction. I eat mostly plant based now, but I don't think diet really has anything to do with my mental health as far as my anxiety and depression. My father has been on antidepressants for a big part of his life, it's just something we don't have control over sometimes. I really love your long videos/vlogs, it makes me feel like I get to hang out with a friend during my day (which is great when I'm home alone with a 3 year old all day lol) 🩷

Sharing your life puts you in such a vulnerable place, and to be a KZbinr with any kind of following AND a woman AND vegan AND sharing mental health struggles, etc., considering all the trolls those things draw in especially as your audience and reach grows, you have to have an incredible amount of strength to keep going. I enjoy watching your content, it's soothing and gives me ideas for cooking, things I want to do in my own home and garden, etc. Even if they're not the same things you're doing, it's helpful to see someone sharing their approach to and thinking around things. I hope that if burnout is creeping at the edges, you can find the spark and joy in all of this. And I know that you see that for every troll making nonsense comments, there are so many more of us who are glad you're here and doing what you're doing, sharing what you choose to share, etc. It doesn't make dealing with the trolls any easier, but I just want to affirm that. Just a thought that I'm sure you've had yourself, I wonder how complicated it would be to have someone else read your comments for a while and only pass on the ones that are worth reading and responding to, and having someone else post them as you? When I was moderating a growing community I had founded a few years ago, once it grew into the tens of thousands I had to hand over the moderation to someone else for a while because some people started getting nasty about the smallest perceived issues. It got to be too much. And it was not as bad when it was awful people who were just intentionally trolling, they were easy to dismiss. It was actually so much harder when it was people who appeared to be there for the right reasons, but just had to nitpick about every slight thing that they blew up into major issues, and couldn't see that they weren't actually helping. Anyway, just saying, on a much smaller scale I get how the comments can get you down, and it's not as easy as saying "just ignore them." Because yeah that'd be great but it's not always possible when you already struggle with anxiety and depression (which I also understand intimately). Outsourcing reading the comments for a while might be something to think about. Sorry about the essay length response 😆

I look at YT video content by creators as a glimpse of what they feel most comfortable to share--baking, cooking, leisure, family, or things they are going through at the moment. I think it takes a special kind of talent --esp. nowadays, to share a part of yourself all the while being judged, no doubt, by someone somewhere. There are so many that love your content--that are here for you no matter what you choose to share. Your people will show up to watch your videos because they love listening to you and seeing bits of your life. So, you keep making whatever kind of videos you want and whenever you want because that is what makes you happy and what you need and we'll be here for it because we adore you. xoxo

Thank you Madeleine, well said! You have hit this subject right on the nail. I too, suffer with episodes of anxiety and depression. Sometimes so severe that I just don't feel like I can face people or even function with my own self care. Yes, there are triggers that life can throw at you. Sometimes it seems that there is no rhyme or reason. Is it our fault, is there any blame? I'm not sure, I don't think that these are helpful questions in the moment. Just be and be kind, be gentle upon ourselves and others. You are and that is what I love about your vlog.

Come to Spain and get some sunshine, the spirit goes low in the winter days. Love you darling, take care please. Best wishes to you and your family!!

Not a cookbook, but I always turn to Domestic Gothess' blog for vegan baking recipes, she has so many cake recipes and tips and tricks for ingredients. My partner and I have a copy of your cookbook and absolutely love it - the BBQ Seitan recipe is to die for! And so easy 🫶 love watching your videos, sending love from North Devon x

Hey, I've had the best results from so many vegan bakers, and swear by the channel "It doesn't take like chicken" and also has as a website, and her cakes are easy and taste amazing, especially the chocolate one! Also, I always use recipes that include - oil mixed with plant milk and apple cider vinegar as this replicates egg and goes all thick and creamy. I tend to find recipes online, but there are a few great books too- The Little Book of Vegan Bakes, is also a huge winner! Thanks again for your homely, cosy and honest vlogs. To all the trolls and vile humans out there who have no social awareness or the people who lack social skills and think it's OK to tear others down to make yourself feel better, bore off, and take a look at yourself before putting others down. Says more about them, than you, Maddie. Sending love xx

I clean my organic produce with ozonated water before I put them in the fridge and that keeps them fresh a lot longer!
