Big Tom sounds like a pretty good guy. He's aware of what is going on around him but is simply unable to control it. I do wonder if the friendly ones will wind up helping him as he ages and becomes unable to care for himself.

I love the turn this took! When Tom finished the beans, I was expecting the story to wrap up and thinking, “that was fun!” Then I saw that the video was only halfway through.

Knowing it’s a one way trip. A few old style blades with a guard, sharpening stones…. If I am careful I can get months from a disposable razor. Not perfect. I understood crews of 3 were considered a bad idea on long duration trips.

@@larsharris naw, what you're referring to is a strop. A good old straight edge can go, well almost generationally with nothing but a daily stropping. The reason I said it was amazing is the fact that our loving narrator and myself are both well bearded. And having used even commercial "hi tec" blades still suck as a grooming regimen. Lol As to your crews of three reference.... definitely. Best case sociology experiments I believe go "bonded pair", "dual bonded pair", then like a minimum 25-30. However I believe the author hinted briefly to they were the only "3" to survive the ship escape and subsequent crash landing.

Well, he actually is the "ancient alien" in this story. By the narration, it started with 3 aliens. I hope the 2 tribes continue their more or less friendly co-existence.

I really hope this short story gets expanded upon one day. It’s a Bittersweet story of a castaway astronaut, but we only see his side with the aliens he lives with….we don’t see Earth’s point of view after they receive his signal, also how they would respond to it.
