That fay bargen sounds downright good considering half the ones in mythology involve fay accidentally subjecting humans to brutal death thinking it's a favor (like impressing the wild hunt with your singing ability resulting in a bear carcas getting thrown down your chimney so hard it collapses and the flaming debris burn down the house with your entire family inside). Getting given a basically endless life in exchange for one you have no memory of, and the people trading you getting a guarantee your sibling would live to adulthood in a world before antibiotics, where it was near 50% odds both siblings were gonna be dead by 10.

Most settings it wouldn't work out like this except with a certain kind of Changeling, namely the kind born of a human and fey like the baby at the end of this story. Now the idea of DNA evidence of a sort would certainly work with most types of Fae that can form physical body that isn't a pure elemental construct, but if you had the means to track down a Fae to test it against it would be better to use it for a spell of some kind. That said I expected Rowena to have been the child her parents tried to save as it would be easier for the parents to give up a child to save it's life.

The voice sounds as if it were normal condition. Though I do have mild tinnitus (self-diagnosed on account of the fact that I routinely forget ear protection when firing firearms on the range) so it could be slightly different in reality. How does it feel to you?

(Not meaning to be obnoxious) Please (this applies to all who partake in the pew pew) include a dedicated set of ear protection in your range bag. Plus a box of ear plugs in case you need to pass some out at an outdoor range for newbies less equipped. Ears are valuable equipment, they allow you to hear Squirrel narrated stories. 👂 (I do admit the few times I've gone it's been fun).

The contract where he promised her his firstborn was in exchange for a companion or something the like. So he married her, showed her the world of humans, and she gave birth to that child which she originally bargained for, at which point, payment made, she brought him to the land of the fae, where their child would become a fairy too.
