A Hidden River Yields TONS of Rare Fossils! An Epic Florida Canoe Voyage

This was way, WAY overdue! An expedition to find some of my favorite types of fossils, Pleistocene age vertebrates. This time period is often called the "ice age" and had a ton of fantastic megafauna as well as other interesting smaller animals. Florida was an incredible, wild place during the time all these fossils were deposited, and we always enjoy getting out to unlock the mysteries of what can be found in the gravel.
If you guys enjoyed this fossil hunting video, make sure to hit that thumbs up button and let us know down in the comments below!

I just received my PaleoPack on Monday and have been looking through it slowly after work! You actually showed a fossil in this video that I was going to try and identify after I’ve gone through everything!!! I have myself a fossilized gar fish scale, so cool!! Thank you for sharing your passion with those of us who may not get the chance ❤️ much love to you, Bri, and Kyle!

I ordered a few of the Paleopacks during the pandemic and it was soooooo fun to sift through the "gravioli" looking for the tiniest shark teeth. Some day, I will hunt for Megs in FL but this was a pretty darn neat/close second! Thanks, Cris!

Man, this day was such an incredible and unforgettable adventure! Not only did we find some cool fossils, but the real treasure was getting out into some primitive and un-touched Florida wilderness, which is increasingly rare these days. And on top of that, the time spent with two of my favorite humans on this planet is priceless! I love y'all and I can't wait to do it again!

And so passes into History the three epic Fossil hunters, PaleoCris, PaleoBri and WildKyle carried off into the dark nethers of the Flroida Swamps by Florida's unofficial State Bird, the Horse Fly and it's conspiring friends the Deer flies and the "no-see-ums". Their sacrifice will be etched forever in the halls of KZbin-dom, for valor above and beyond the call of duty to acquire top quality fossils and footage of finding them. May they Rest in Pieces, very small pieces. LOL Thanks for sharing your exploits in the back-woods of Florida, you have no idea how blessed you are to be able to do what you do, and I wish I could go on a trip with you three into the far reaches of those small creeks to find unbelievable fossils literally covering the ground and the bottoms of creek beds! All of your viewers can tell, without a doubt, that you three enjoy yourselves and love what you do. Modern life is so amazing that people can do what they love and get paid for it! Such a wonderful thing! Keep up the great work!

I'm trying to figure out how to say this without it coming out patronizing. You and Wild Kyle are so fun to watch because you bring a child-like excitement to your treasure hunting. Neither of you seem shy about showing your enthusiasm for the hunt and for learning and you have that masculine energy that I think should be a model for others. The same type of energy of Mr. Rogers, Bob Ross, Lavar Burton and The Crocodile Hunter. You just want to watch the world learn. Bravo. I always look forward to your videos and I love it when Bri strikes and shows you two how to *really* fossil hunt (jk-but the girl got finding game!)

Here in Australia we don't have the awesome fossils that abound in the northern hemisphere. I've learned a lot about Ice Age animals from watching your videos. I like to try to identify them as you puck them out. I got the camel tooth and the tortoise scoots. I thought the great white tooth was a small meg tooth. 🤷‍♀️ still learning. 🙂 Those flies sound like a bit of a nightmare. Maybe they should be in Australia with the rest of our bitey, stingy things.

Old rock hound here: A good trick when hunting specimens in water. Get a black bucket and cut a circle out of the base leaving a lip about half an inch in from the edge. Then cut out a circular piece of Perspex a half inch bigger than the circle you cut out of the bucket. Place the Perspex into the bucket and seal it around the edge using silicone. When you place the bottom of bucket in the water you get a perfectly clear “window” of what is at the bottom without trying to squint through the reflection and distortion from the waters surface.

Thankfully I don't have to worry about crocs in Tasmania (except the shoes) we don't have fossils like this here, everything was pushed to the mountain tops and eroded away long ago..I know some spots on the sides of mountains, but prefer to hunt agates on the beach now, so the dog and I don't run into snakes.
