Very nice work, and an interesting take on the challenge. As a man who has carried a knife in some form or fashion since I was about 6, walking hiking and camping I can appreciate having the blade with you like this. I often joke that I'm 40 going on 80 y/o particularly these days due to a chronic illness. Because of that illness I carry a can with me at all times when I'm not at home and frequently while I am at home, I could appreciate having it with me.

Thanks! I’m in the same boat my friend but I’m over a decade older than you and I feel it every day. I too was raised with knives on my hand. They have always been tools I used everyday whether fishing, hunting or chores around the farm. When I was in school, teachers would borrow our knives for a task. Them days are long gone! Thanks for watching. 😁

Why didn’t you Tig Weld the Copper instead of futzing around with the soldering. Thin copper stock just uses Argon for shielding Gas no different than welding steel or aluminum, thicker copper requires an Argon/ Helium Blend or even pure Helium for really thick copper. Now for Filler Metal you can just open up some Romex Electrical Wire that you might have and use the bare ground wire as the Filler Metal as Electrical Wire is always virgin copper and will be very clean/ pure.
@TonySeverioKnives Жыл бұрын
Yes I could have tig welded it. I tig weld aluminum, brass and copper all the time. But if I would have done that, someone would have said I should have soldered it the traditional way. 😂
@peltiereric6497 Жыл бұрын
@@TonySeverioKnives Tig is a stronger bond but many people don’t know you can Tig Copper. I do understand the traditional aspect though but you were were already veering off traditional anyway with the build so don’t think that would matter. Nice build though, so far one of my favorites from anyone who isn’t a judge
@TonySeverioKnives Жыл бұрын
@peltiereric6497 yes it’s much stronger but it’s never going anywhere. I was also soldering it to maybe help other makers on how it’s done. Many makers can’t weld or tig weld. But the tensile strength is very acceptable. I appreciate your feedback and thanks for watching. 😁

LMAO. no one expects anyone to make a Japanese blade the "Traditional" way. going out and getting chunks or raw iron and forging those is archaic. That being said. it is super lazy work to just get a flat bar and shape a blade out of it. so, thank you for being "traditional" enough to make your blade out of a billet.
@TonySeverioKnives Жыл бұрын
Actually it’s starts with iron ore not chunks of iron. But that being said, it is way more efficient to use well refined bars of steel that is far superior than any medieval steel. It’s like using an iPhone instead of sending a letter. I call it smart not lazy. But thanks regardless.
@TyrellKnifeworks Жыл бұрын
This is one of those ridiculous comments from an armchair warrior who has never made anything in his life. Go back to your couch and leave the smithing to the rest of us.
@rytramprophet843 Жыл бұрын
@@TonySeverioKnives yes. Thats what i meant. But yours is a more accurate description. What i meant was that you arent just shaping a single bar. You are cutting and stacking which is like folding. Others will just cut and hammer a bar into shape. When you do this, there is no Hamon (pattern). And it is less durable. Even I could cut a bar into a sword and grind it down. It is lazy.

I like your work. I would say that your idea of a hidden tanto was quite interesting. Some viewers like your "clown", I must say that it's absolutely stupid and that it takes away from your work . Also, it's insulting and inconsiderate from you to make fun of people who are born with this condition. I do like your work, but do you need the "clown" to attract attention? Please make fun some other way.
@TonySeverioKnives Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think you may have misunderstood who the "clown" is in this video. The clown is the audience purist or TROLL. Those who liked it, including two of my Japanese friends, GOT IT. Thats who the clown is directed to...not a culture or anyone born a certain way. My connection to the Japanese culture is long and respected. I have played this character in two tv shows and one feature film for sci fi channel. You can search me on IMDB for reference. He was not created for THIS video. Hès also been in other episodes of my KZbin videos, has his own channel and Facebook page. I respect that you may not like the character, but you are dead wrong on it insulting or being inconsiderate to anyone. Thanks for watching..
