@ I now understand why folks rob banks… it is to buy a 2x72 belt grinder!
@TonySeverioKnives2 күн бұрын
@productiontrimcarpenter yeah for this craft it’s a necessary tool. I started with a cheap 4” belt sander over 30 years ago and made about 4 knives. Then I purchased a cheap mediocre 2x72. It was very limited in capabilities. After a few knives I decided to buy a Cadillac, at the time, 2x72. It was a game changer. Later I bought another on just like it. They are old now but I’m still using them today. I had to save and make sacrifices to get them. Now I wish I had a modern grinder but just not able to afford it. However I am saving for the day I can. Making knives is like anything else. There is no shortcuts or cheap paths that yield good results. 🙂

The more you work it, the harder it gets. I have to constantly heat and quench it to soften it because it keeps work hardening.

Tony thank you for sharing. May I suggest for you to use Anchor Lube for your drilling/counterboring/tapping. This is very useful for Stainless and Titanium machining operations. It is a water based coolant, helps stop the work hardening and it cleans up real easy. I love this knife buid.

12:26 hmmm that's a lot of spatter... pulse MIG is basically modulated spray transfer, so you shouldn't really have spatter at all... perhaps a lower wire speed?
@TonySeverioKnives19 күн бұрын
Yes the speed was too fast
@adamclark945 күн бұрын
Is it that or should it be 90/10 gas? Pulsed someone said the only option is 90/10 in settings? I'll have to look when I get back home but was about to order c25 and now wonder if I should get c10 instead if using pulsed and dual pulse. If you have pulse idk why you'd need regular in most situations the pulse will give better looking welds with similar penetration with proper prep

One suggestion: fix the microscope to the table itself, not to something separate from it. That is because even minute/micro movements of the table in relation to the microscope will quickly become painfully noticable. When the microscope is fixed to the table these movements will not be felt.

When I get a proper table setup I plan to do just that. Thanks for the input! 🙂

Good morning friend, thanks for a very informative and interesting article. I've made many slip joint and conventional lockback knives but never one of these. Obviously you have to have your game on to be successful with them. I'm anxious to see how the rest of the build goes. I may have to try one now that I have more time, soon to retire ! Cheers friend.
@TonySeverioKnives21 күн бұрын
Good morning brother! You’re very welcome. I’m no expert but this is how I make them. They all have their special differences. Slip joints and lock backs require specific detail as you know. A framelock is basically a linerlock but different construction and thicknesses so the process is a little different. Thank you for watching! 🙂
