Very insightful video about the evolution of the climbing gear! It's impossible to imagine how people were doing all these dangerous things with such heavy and bulky equipment (though still incredible for its time). We are so lucky to have these modern companions for our adventures, we just got to do it!

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Approximate dates of each evolution would have been a great touch.

I used an old pair of Grivel front point crampons in thr 70s climbing in the Alps and found them very good

This is a great format for that type of video, it probably deserved a bit more time shooting that I guess wasn't possible. But still, very nice balance of information, aesthetics and advertising!

Can someone recommend 3 or 4 climbing books that deal with and tell stories about the early history of mountain climbing from its inception to about 1950? I've read "The White Spider" 3 or 4 times and it always leaves me wanting more of the same but I know of no other books like it. Thanks,

All the kit the old timers used is so heavy! Makes modern climbers wonder how they managed.

@chankludo - Many of them didn't and died. Have you heard the term "the leader shall not fall"?. It was beyond risky back then.
@philipppuchner11155 жыл бұрын
@@stevewalston7089 Jup. And the "ropes" back then. Selfmade and couldn't hold a single fall. Well, depended of course. Insanely "bold" stuff!
