It is truly shocking to be reminded of the ugly racism which permeates so much of the US' recent history and even more so to think that a significant proportion of today's Americans would like to go back to the 'good old days' of segregation. Until people face up to their prejudices, whatever delusions the US has about being a 'shining city on a hill' are just that, delusions.

@@paradoxdea I hear you, but I also think that when we focus on getting things done, including treating ourselves and others with respect, we regain our power. I truly believe most people who are racist (and otherwise impoverished and unsophisticated in their approach to seeing their fellow human as an amazing being), want us to be debased enough to match their level of stupidity and immaturity. If we keep moving towards our goals of civility and mutual understanding and cooperation, these cave-persons will lose their narcissistic supply and go back to muttering to themselves about how unfair it is that other persons are living lives of purpose and adventure. PS: We must also prosecute to the fullest extent of the law persons who break our hate-crime and discrimination laws!

Pho-Kong Soup, You are so right. And some of the comments like vote more progressive leaders into office. Just know their “true” stance on policies and their integrity because Sinema turned out be a Trojan horse in today’s senate. Another thing AMERICANS need to do is respond to corporate greed very much like the “Great Resignation” stop feeding their greed. Until prices go down, the rich should ONLY buy what they NEED. Because after corporations have drained the Rich’s pockets like they’ve drained the poor they will surely not need anyone. They’ll OWN it all. I say this because with inflation their is still those of us who have high paying jobs, investments, savings and acceptable credit to purchase items at their inflated prices. Not the majority but evidently enough for bloated corporations to artificially hike the prices of all goods. They are taking the normal Demand and ransoming the Supply to the highest bidders. Leaving the poor and destitute unable to feed and house their families. Think about it, 50% of Americans are struggling to feed their families nutritious foods and the other 50% can afford nutritious foods and whatever else they want including Healthcare. What are the Rich 50% going to do after they spend all their earnings and credit and they suddenly loose their health like so many millions before them??? And the 1% has all their money, what will AMERICA become then?

Funny how Wicker didn't mention US Senator Blanche Bruce from Miss who was senior senator to the junior Miss senator Lucious Lamar. US Senator Blanche Bruce was the first Black senator to win a full senate term and was not barred from being seated. Sen. Bruce served his entire 6 yr term. But I guess since Sen. Bruce was black, well, he wasn't esteemed enough for Wicker to mention.
