I'll be staying in Bibury soon for a 2 weeks holidays visiting the Cotswolds. These videos from the Cotswolds explorer are the best I've seen. It's thoroughly enjoyable and interesting listening to Robin and his amazing knowledge on the Cotswolds. I've only watched 5 so far and intend to watch them all. Thank you Robin! It's such a pleasure listening to you! 💕

A walk across the meadow at Arlington Row next to the stream is great in Summer as there is usually wildlife there.

Immediately subbed! I took a tour of the Cotswolds but our bus driver said we couldn’t go to Bibury (the main village I wanted to see!) because the village doesn’t allow large vehicles.

There is only a small car park. You can get about 10 cars or 5 cars and a couple of coaches. In peak season it's very hard to even park a car there or on the main street.

I was wondering where the yellow car was that appears in everyones photos. But I see a blue one was near Arlington Row instead.

On a TV programme last year, I heard a man talking about Bibury; He said, in the 1930's, a Top Hollywood Rroducer was visiting Bibury, and fell in love with ' 'ARLINGTON ROW'', THOSE CONTINUOUS JOINED COTTAGES. He wanted to buy them, but thats not all, he wanted them carefully dismantled, packed up ,and assembled back home in California. need i say more.

Must make a small correction: the road through the village links Cirencester and Burford, not Cheltenham.

Hi dears, do you recommend visiting the village in December?
@Sorrely1
@Sorrely1 4 жыл бұрын
Am a year Late with my reply but if you haven’t visited yet I’d say December not a good time to visit as it’s likely to be grey, wet, cold and damp. May to early Oct would give you a better chance of seeing it at its best.

It might be rainy and cold but that just means less people which isn’t a bad thing right? I definitely think it’s worth a visit if you bundle up :)

what no mentioin of the mill? I love bibury. It doesn't look any different from the day I left 30years ago. Well worth a visit but go early. Traffic was heavy back then.

in 1726 Alexander Pope described the pleasing prospect of Bibury and in the late 1800s William Morris thought Bibury is surely the most beautiful village in England but it was in 1898 on the publication of a Cotswolds village by Joseph Arthur Gibbs that Bibury really became famous the best-known view of Bibury is of the row of late 14th century cottages known as Arlington Row built originally as a monastic wool store in the 17th century it was converted into a row of Weaver's cottages they stand at the foot of the strangely named awkward Hill pronounced locally as awkward Hill and now belong to the National Trust in the 1970s they restored and altered the building's merging some of the cautions together to provide comfortable accommodation for the 21st century the river cone which runs through Bibury is teeming with trout and at one end of the page is the Bibury trout farm next to the bridge over the river which carries the main road to Cheltenham millions of rainbow trout have spawned each year and the smoked trout available from their shop is justly famous. by Bray has a particular fascination for the Japanese tourists in 1921 the crown prince Hirohito before he became emperor famously visited England as part of his European tour a trip which he described it as one of the happiest times of his life and he visited and stayed in bibury thousands of his compatriots have followed in his footsteps for many years the village has been served by two hotels one of them at bibury court her beautiful 17th century manor house has recently become a private house again and is undergoing huge restoration the other now known as the Swan is still in full flow originally a 17th century coaching in with stabling and a taproom these days it's a fine hotel with comfortable rooms and excellent cuisine it said that local trials were held here acclaim perhaps backed up by the small stone lockup builds next to the road a few yards from the hotel the village itself Nestle's around the church of saint mary's it's a saxon church originally dating from the 8th century with norman and gothic additions so important for some of its saxon artifacts that they've been removed to the British Museum however church remains well worth a visit wandering around this extraordinarily beautiful place of bibury admittedly at at the ungodly hour about half past five in the morning which we've done in order to avoid the huge amounts of traffic that we've spoken about earlier on and it's quite clear that why William Morris thought this the most beautiful village in England it's an extraordinary place I'm standing in front now of Mary the Virgin Church in bibury

These days the Mute Swan family breeds well on the stream. Also the last few years a black Swan has been visiting. But get harrased by the Mute Swans.
