I think Yamaha Dx200 / An200 / Su200 deserve an honorable mention. I had MC303/505 (now I own its keyboard version JX305) and used all the Electribes products but still use DX200 + EA1 + ER1 to this day What I like about EA1 - Instantly sequence two mono step sequences into outboard or daw. It’s especially great for auditioning patches on Virus TI or other Va ER1: Instantly sequence drum patterns. It’s especially great to record drum outboard into RM1x or instant drum XOX patterns into DAW. I enjoy sequencing drum parts into mothfXF using ER1 sequencer. dX200 - I live mangling DX / FM sound modulation, really cool op/carrier combinations with envelope / LFO modulation. great 1 bar sequencing with realtime step rate/recerse/ cut-time/ double-time on both baseline/synth part and drums. I live recording midi performance with the realtime midi effects / cut/double time/ retiring /drum roll forward backwards effect into 32+ bars into daw or outboard. An200: same as above but with live va engine sound Sp202 and su200: great ~30 second sampling and loops with lofi built in effects. Great for making great lofi tones and loops

Great video. I was on tour in 2001 and came across the ER-1 in a music store in Portland. I drove everyone nuts for the rest of the tour. I think I may have to find another one. Terrific explanation of the machines- I hope #Korg kicks you something!

I really liked the EA-1. It's best feature was using the audio in as a midi clocked audio gate. I used to play distorted guitar power chords thru it for Shamen Move Any Mountain style riffs.
@alicedeeper Жыл бұрын
whipped out my EA-1 and it's a ton of fun, because of the limitations but also because of it's hands-on ease of use. I also have the EMX, which is a beast, and just thinking about it makes me smile, though I am criminally not using it enough. I did get the volca FM because I wanted an FM synth, and it serves it's purpose, but yeah, the volcas are no electribes, I don't think they were intended to be that. Was (still am) on the fence about getting a new electribe blue, since it's polyphonic and it base sound design pretty good, but arguably lacks the charm and workflow of the original things.. It would be more from a collection perspective anyway. I do see a comment about the Elektron model:samples - I have the model:cycles and concur, these devices are VERY electribe-ey. In the end, as far as grooveboxes go, I think the EM-1 hit the nail on the head MOST in terms of value for budget back in the day and that original workflow just can't be beat.

I totally enjoyed that. I loved the original electribe series. They where all so well designed and very playable, We had such high hopes for the E2 but it was a huge let down. In comparison to the originals, the E2's are a downgrade. Then Korg continued to dropped the ball when they released the Volcas. It felt like a slap in the face to the dedicated electribe users, We needed an upgrade not cheap toys.

Yamaha's "walkstations" were released before Roland's "grooveboxes".

great info. i own an er 1 , vocla drum, and a vocla fm. Volcas are great concepts but the execution makes it counter intuitive. Musicians need quarter inch outputs. LOL. ER 1 is a workhorse for sure.
@markmanter650810 ай бұрын
I have a few Volcas in my setup currently and it is definitely kind of strange that they use 1/8” outputs. I have the Volca Keys Bass Drum and FM1 and they’re fun to play especially with the built in sequencers, but they’re not at all comparable to the Electribes. I’m not sure which Electribe to go for, but I know I would definitely go for one of those before an MPC or SP. Just have to figure out which one would vibe well with my MicroKorg 🤔
