Early digital stuff is so fascinating. It never nails what it's going for, but sometimes it creates it's own extremely unique sound. And when I say "early digital stuff," I really mean like 80's and 90's and early 2000's stuff, as legitimate virtual analogue stuff that was good at copying analogue sounds didn't really come about until the mid 2000's at the earliest. And honestly that makes me really happy because I like different sounds, not just stuff that sounds like something else. I always wanted the original Electribes. I used to compare them to the Roland MC boxes and even the SH-32. After all these years I'm still not sure how any of those stack up, as I've never owned them, but I still have a soft spot for all of them, being pieces of gear that I've longed for. I always liked the layout of the Electribes. They seem very intuitive.

Gosh I am finding all of my old gear in your videos this morning. I remember when I bought the EA-1 and ER-1 to use with my DJX keyboard at the end of ‘99. While they were limited I had a blast playing them and forever regret selling them, though I used that money to buy an Access Virus A, which has been my favorite. I was close to buying a second pair about 15 years ago at a used music shop where I could have gotten them both for $200 but it was Christmas, money was tight and I ended up getting a layaway refund 😭 I still look around for them from time to time and have almost pulled the trigger on several occasions. I also had an SP-505 by Boss and that was very hard to use. I’d love to see a video on that device! It was a lot of numerical editing to get things in the right order.

well to be honest, all the presets on that thing were great to see what it could do... but i wasn't huge on any of that. i never really used the sequencer either..... outside of that, the ea-1 is one of the loudest machines i have owned. for some reason it is damn potent and rugged. i use it only for making quick bass patches that i sample into other things... sometimes i have sequenced it with an mpc or something (you can sequence all the knobs via midi so that is neat) ... i think it really shines as a simple bass synth. they have gone up in price on the used market so i can see how some people might be disappointed these days... but back when i bought that one there were not too many affordable synths. the analog wave 2.0 didn't happen yet.

AudioPilz it’s the first midi synth from Roland (1983). There is preset yes, but it’s more like a light Jupiter 8, very different from the Juno. It was based on a guitar synth, and they decided to do a keyboard synth finally, 6 voices. It’s actually a good vintage synth, but some people hated it, or underestimated it, because... some sounds are crappy in the preset bank, I gess (best synth to do dying cat’s growl), but some other are great and emblematic (maybe it’s not a English word, sorry I’m French...) of the 80s. Maybe it’s a too good synth for your show... but it’s controversary (yeah... I’m pretty sure this word is not English at all).

I used to fire the drums from my MC303 through the second channel for FX and filters then had a spare channel for riffs as well as the clean music from the 303. Now I just use it to sequence my MS20.

Cool! MS20 is nice!

If ppl (Synth nerds that is in this case) hate it, then it’s good. That’s my philosophy

I'd like to see what you make of the M-Audio Trigger Finger Pro... 👍
@AudioPilz4 жыл бұрын
Wanted to have one of those when they came out. Unfortunately, controllers are not exactly hollywoodworthy in gear videos (except for the REALLY cool stuff like Beatstep/Keystep Pro)
@RANDOMLOOPGENERATOR4 жыл бұрын
@@AudioPilz I had one briefly, I still use the software occasionally, Arsenal. Not a bad little sampler program, much better with the Beatstep Pro though. Keep up the great work my friend, I look forward to your next vid 👌

I found one for dirt cheap on Reverb, and it sat by my desk for weeks. Finally tonight I fired it up and was immediately disappointed. BUT! After patiently wheeling along to A.19, I found a patch that actually sounds GREAT. Imagine the JD-800 "Wailing Guitar" patch, but with about 50% of the nuance and about 90% of the tone. NOT BAD 🤓 Seems like this little box has some potential if one can muster the patience to coax out the magic.

My buddy is giving me one for free today. That and a Yamaha DX200. I can’t wait to run them threw pedals and what not. I haven’t played them both in at least 20 years

Wow, DX200 - NICE!!!

@@AudioPilz most definitely, although it won’t boot up. I’m gonna have it serviced. I cracked it open and can’t figure it out. Apparently the sound board in it is worth money. They add it to the Motif to give it FM.

Accurate. :) It makes some killer basses - it killed a couple of pairs of headphones of mine at least! Not really deserving of the 'thinny' award it holds. Lead sounds are a bit naff and 1 dimensional, but that second channel is really useful for weird FX blarps and squizzles

Mmmmmmh, blarps and squizzles - sounds like a British delicacy
