In my childhood I read Popeye comic books from ages 4 to 7...and later found out Popeye's original comic strip beginnings. I have researched the original Popeye and have had two articles about him printed in books and magazines. I now have many Popeye comic books and am a member of the official Popeye fan club in Chester, Ill.

+Richard Ranke I always wanted to join that. What do you get for your membership? How long ago were your articles published? and where were they published?

I'm not sure. Right now I'm in the library and haven't acsess to my Popeye books. Why don't you write to them and ask, sending in $10.00 for the quarterly Popeye newsletter? You could find the address on the computer. I still have the membership card they gave me. My article,"Popeye and the Depression,"was published in Nemo Magazine # 3,in the 1980s-and my article,"E.C.Segar,A Life,"was published in the 4th volume of the Fantagraphics Popeye series.(I think you have that one.) Sagendorf was the first Popeye artist I read things by-and now I know he was Segar's only assistant in the 1930s.

A very cool collection. I didn't realize you had such an extensive comic book collection. I believe Popeye is the very first super-powered cartoon character. I'm always looking for those super early King Comics when they're cheap which almost never, 😆

Hya Tom!! Been a Popeye fan for something like 55 years! I'm partial to the Max Fleisher cartoons myself! Hard to believe that he has been around since 1929! Wow, where did you find those Sunday strips? Olive Oyl, and Ham Gravy. Oh man, nice Dell's and King books!! Blondie looks like she's a little cold! Not exciting? I'm loving it! And in Charltan, I didn't know that. The yellow one is German, Sammelband means collection. And the Nonay one, maybe Mexico or Spain?! Excellent Little Golden Books! That is one outstanding Popeye collection!

Okay Tom, first off I have to say you did the proper start to any Popeye video. You have to give the nod to Fleischer cartoons. Popeyes theme song is arguably the most recognizable theme song in existence and the Fleischer Studios cartoons were Disneys only real competition ever. They pushed each other to make some of the greatest animation ever seen to this day. The Fleischer Popeyes and rotoscope Supermans are some of the most beautifully animated pieces of all time. They hold up amazingly well too, I watched Popeye Meets Sindbad a few weeks ago. Also when I heard Robin Williams had died, the next day I watched Altmans Popeye. Some people dislike it, but I really love that flick and I think the essence of the characters was captured well and the cast was great. I remember the Popeye arcade game, it was really good for its time. Thats badass you have an arcade cabinet version. I still have the Atari 2600 Popeye cartridge at least. Those old newspapers are great. Oooh King Comics Popeyes, some excellent covers there. The foreign editions are really cool and it was nice to read facialrecs categorization of them. That Action #1 homage is great too. I enjoyed this one a lot Tom. Excellent collection of one of the greatest cartoon/comic characters of all time and a great video. Take care!

Thanks a lot for watching and commenting. I agree with you on the Fleisher Superman cartoons, and the Popeye vs Sinbad is my all time favorite Popeye cartoon.

Tom Ryan LOL...I think most people love to see how others are spending their moneys :)...although I watched all kind of videos, i prefer the non haul videos more and I don't make haul videos since I rarely buy much of anything these days.
