One note about forre is that now a days curse fire lax is at a really bad place in the meta so the only lax that is running fire is 4 attacks or the very very rare toxic lax. 4 attacks is not the most common and often not the lead. Toxic lax is more commonly the lead but flamethrower only has a 23% chance to kill forre. As such lead forre at this point can spike against lead lax pretty safely.

Spikes to me is the most balanced entry hazard (I mean, Toxic Spikes could conceivably also receive that spot but I think Spikes deserve it a bit more since T-Spikes seem a tad bit over balanced in a sense). It's strong but it requires 3 turns of set up to reach it's maximum potential, which isn't free, it has several counter plays, notably not being grounded and since the damages it deals are fixed it acts as an equalizer of sorts, yet it's just some residual damage and doesn't exactly win you the game on it's own (because with just one player, 12.5% is definitely very good but that's not broken). Compare that to Stealth Rocks which require only one turn, affect everything and since the damage is relative, it single handedly determines if a Pokemon is viable or not (not so much in gen 8 with HDB, but this item exists almost solely because of this move). And then you have Sticky Webs which also has counter plays like Spikes (not affecting flyers, pokemon with Clear Body don't care, those with Defiant and Competitive outright revel in it etc), but the upside is so strong it can just win the game almost by itself. And then you have Steelspikes which just suck Compare that to
@HowlingOneify2 жыл бұрын
Rocks do not single handedly determine if a Pokemon is viable. As we've seen throughout the generations, a mon will get used even if they are rock weak if they have the qualities that make a good mon. Pre gen 8 there are many cases. Volcarona, Zapdos, TornadusT, hell Mantine saw some OU play early gen7. Victini in SM. For that matter rocks do not single handedly decide games either.
@sephikong83232 жыл бұрын
@@HowlingOneify I went hard when saying single handedly, but it's still such h a disproportionately big factor and a Rock weakness is such a huge burden to overcome, Zapdos and Gyarados are really good in DPP, but the rock weakness tremendously limits their ability to be played, rocks are pretty much the biggest factor in keeping Volcarona in check in BW etc, and there are some Pokemon that would definitely have a spot on a team but require so much effort to consistently get rid of the rocks for them that they're niche as a result (gen 7 Moltres). Stealth Rock is such a huge factor that hampers so many Pokemon, frequently, the pokemon that saw a ton of usage despite a rock weakness aren't so much a proof that rocks don't limit viability rankings as it is ....... a testament to how strong you need to be to viable despite a Rock weakness if not a double rock weakness (because Zard Y in gen 6 is absolutely ridiculous)

Great vid, as pretty much always:P As a gsc fanatic, i have a nice suggestion to make. Make a video about Cloyster-Golem-Gengar jumping in usage last years, demonstrating the huge impact of both Spikes & Explosion in the current metagame and its overall offensive tendency. ps: i like steelix too, yes it can't spin but it can pave the way for physical attackers and be a great spikes abuser on its own as well, especially vs defensive teams.

@yaytennis2 жыл бұрын
I feel like getting feedback from the comments section will always have some form of selection bias, since only people who watch the video will comment, and most people who watch, watch because they enjoy the current form of video. People who don't like this style won't watch in the first place. I think most people (me included) prefer scripted content because it's more concise. Attention spans are short so people want videos to get to the point. Freezai is so successful in part because his videos are short and get to the point without any filler. I don't think your videos should be that short tbh but longer-form videos also benefit heavily from a script -- see channels like Summoning Salt, for instance.

Weird question, "what are examples of a new mechanics/moves/changes that had potential in their introductory generation, but didn't see competitive relevance until a later gen due to the lack of good abusers?" (Doesn't count if the thing got buffed in the generation it became relevant in) Both spikes and items (leftovers) were very impactful in their first generation so I wondered if there were examples of the opposite. I know a couple people have probably mentioned this, but I think you could find a nice middle ground solution regarding the scripted/unscripted discussion. A true script feels too rigid for your style, but a certain amount of structure is useful. I don't know what your process is and what you've tried, but I'll volunteer the rather unoriginal idea of a basic ordered outline with the important topics and potentially subtopics you want to discuss.
